thompson by a country mile. He had pretty much everything. He could shoot, cross, had reasonable pace and skill. He backtracked, covered his man and could tackle. Out of all those McGeady has skill and nothing else. Thommo showed huge passion for the club and tried his hardest every game whereas mcgeady doesnt. Where does McGeady go when the big games come around - thompson would play well almost every of game and european night and scored crucial goals whilst mcgeady is constantly posted missing. You only have to look at mcgeady's performance at ibrox to see that he is nowhere near thompson

If both are at their best, McGeady.

Don't agree with that at all, McGeady only looks good against the likes of Falkirk & Hamilton at home most of the time. Thommo on form could score goals from anywhere, aswell as having a quality left-peg, his corners and freekicks were deadly aswell.

McGeady is one of the most overrated Celtic players I have seen.

Need to remember that Thompson was alot older then McGeady when at Celtic. So I think McGeady, due to his age as it is a close one apart from age.

As much as I liked Thompson I just prefer watching McGeady on top form.

Partly. When McGeady is on top form there is a sense of expectation when he gets the ball.

Put him against anyone in the world one-on-one and I fancy him to go past.

Thompson could cross a ball and score goals and was a great servant to us under O'Neill. He is probably more 'effective', but thats not what I'm thinking about here.

But I still like to be entertained and see stuff that makes me thing 'wow'. McGeady does that, McCourt does that.

In an attacking position I would always choose McGeady over Thompson, just because he is more likely to do something a bit different.

McGeady is a more naturally talented player but Thomson was a better player for us. He was one of the key men in a great Celtic side. But I do think that McGeady could surpass him.

The thing is with most wingers, what age do they peak, 26-27? 28+ they begin to lose a bit of pace, their main asset. Thompson peaked around 30.

McGeady has barely improved in the last 2 years and I don't really see him improving much, if any, more.

I'm actually much the same as you. For example if I had to choose between Alan Thompson or Lubo Moravcik I would always choose Lubo. And my reason would be because of the 'wow' factor Lubo had.

I just feel like Aiden lets us down in the big games too often.

Thompson played a couple of games as a wingback and done rather well i seem to remember.

Thompson without a seconds hesitation. He scored more, he created more, and was the textbook definition of a big game player. McGeady has only turned up in a handful of big games out of the dozens he has appeared in.

Thompson also tracked back more and could play in a variety of positions, he was also excellent from set pieces.

This is a no contest. Other than tricks McGeady has absolutely nothing that Thommo didn't.
