For me, it's European nights and the songs.

The night we beat Barcelona (the day of the Spanish train bombings), YNWA was absolutely astounding and for three minutes, I truly believed we were the greatest fans in the world.

Of course, now we're not really allowed to support our team. Many songs are banned, if you're too loud, a steward will ask you to leave, you're not allowed to stand, if you try to start a song you'll be eyeballed by the attending police, players aren't allowed to properly celebrate etc...

The SPL, FIFA/UEFA even Glasgow City Council, are pretty determined to remove the spirit of the game. Although recent performances have shown us to be quite an unsupportive lot, I don't think it's entirely down to our own mentality.

we'er not the best fans because when things are'nt going well attendances go down plus we have quite a few sectarian fans :38:

i would say Borussia Dortmunds fans are up there as they've went through a tough time the last few years yet attendances are at 70000 every week and they also produce a great atmosphere

celtic fans are great but i must say this season the atmosphere has been a disgrace at the home games people who buy season tickets and only go to the rangers games or european games realy annoys me i'm sure there is fans out there who would happily take there ticket and go to every home game and support the team

In terms of support, our away fans must be one of the world's best.

Home fans' support in recent years have been abysmal, too many spoiled fans.

I agree, our away support must be right up there with the best but our home support is embarassing.

We have a good rep, but when things are bad,its bad our away support this season has been great under the circumstances.
at CP theres been only 1 great game this season and in my section its like a ghost town

the more i think of what Roy Keane said about the Man Utd prawn eating brigade the more it reflects to CP....:97: the thing is i have not seen Prawns sarnies for sale at CP so there must be something similar :icon_mrgreen:

as for the best in the world..........well am not to sure about that

Put simply - We are not the best fans in the world.

The way our fans have behaved over the past couple of season shows you that. As a group we have become far too impatient and far too demanding to even be considered for the tag 'best fans in the world'. These days it's a case of lose a couple of games and the manager has to go, sack the board and half the team being branded as *. Can people who behave in this way be regarded as the best fans in the world? Not a chance.

Don't get me wrong though, on our day we do have great fans. When there's a big game/occasion on the horizon then the best side of the Celtic support rises to the surface. You only have to look at what happened in Seville to see the potential of the Celtic support. We're huge in numbers, we're well received pretty much wherever we go and we have a fantastic repertoire of songs to support our team with. We can also create a fantastic atmosphere for the big games ie. Champions League nights at Parkhead.

We have much to be proud of but we are not the best fans in the world.

what i've seen in the scapegoating of players to vent general frustrations on made me give up the belief that we are the best.

Don't you think that the ones who are impatient are impatient because they are so passionate? and the ones who have np problem with us being 13pts behind rangers don't care because they are not so passionate?

The way it has been is at the half way point in the season there was only a couple of people shouting for his head then everytime we dropped points that number slowly grew when people started to realise of wait he's clueless but there are still those who are sticking to mowbray like a blue aresed fly because they don't want to be proved wrong.

Now if you can bring yourself to sit and watch a manager * up everthing he could possibly * up and still want him there next season then you have to ask yourself who actually is the better supporter out of yourself and the ones calling for his head.

There have been people after Mowbray almost from the get go. For me that is not being very supportive. Look at how the Liverpool fans are still sticking by Rafa Benitez even though they're having their worst season for years.....I think that's brilliant. You'd probably call it misguided but I think it's great. Patience is a rare commodity amongst football fans these days and I personally think it's a bad thing.

I don't think I'm any better a fan than you are just the same as I don't think you're any better a fan than I. What I do think though is that quite a few of our fans totally over-react to any setback we have and start lashing out at the board/manager/certain players or all 3. I guess we all have different ideas about what the best way forward for Celtic is and that is fine but in my own opinion it's not being very supportive to call your manager a '*' or a 'loser' every time we don't win a match. Especially when he's only been in the job a few months.

To earn the tag 'best fans in the world', which is what this thread is about, then I don't think we should be behaving in that fashion. The Liverpool fans are showing us up at the moment with the way they are sticking by their team/manager and are far more worthy of the label than we are at this time.

    Spot on Marky! :50:

If we were the best fans in the world we would get behind the team and support them through thick and thin. But when the going gets tough, sack the manager, sack the board and get rid of the players!

A would aye You can't talk for the liverpool fans.

    Rafa Benitez's Liverpool Future - Page 2

I think you will find that that forum is a mirror image of the celtic one, so are they better than us?

You can't say that fans are bad because of what they say about the manager imo we have turned up time and time again and been short changed for it all season.

Mate i can see where you are coming from but we are a club who is supposed to be sucessful, you can't expect to be short changed an the fans to shut up about it (as seen by your precious liverpool) if we just shut up about it it would show lack of passion and that is the mentality of a mid table prem league team No ambition.

I still go to every game so when the going gets tough i tend to stick by the team when they are on the pitch, when they are off it i come on here to have my say.

Can't you open your eyes and see that that is passion?

It's what all passionate football fans do, because they are passionate about there club.

Do you see the bottom 10 EPL teams complain nooo.... because they don't particularly care that much.

    I respect that. :50:

The people that really gall me are the ones who vent their frustration and abuse the players or manager while the match is going on. I just personally don't like that. I don't think it's in the least bit helpful. I also can't stand it when people throw their scarves/season tickets on the pitch at the end of a match. To me that is pathetic.

Lee Naylor? I hate the way he's treated nowadays. Ok so he's not the best player in the world but he always gives 100% and never hides when he's out there with the Hoops on.

He dosn't want the ball when he's on you can just hear the anticipation of a mistake when he's on the ball so they can go into one, same ones who don't sing or add to the atmosphere.
