My extream dislike for Tony Mowbray and his hopefully short lived managerial reign at Celtic Park got me thinking about future replacements for him in the coming seasons (hopefully next). Personally, I dont care about seeing my team play attractive football. I just want them to win. I can turn on Sky and watch Arsenal and Barcelona to watch that type of football, but I just want Celtic to go out and beat every team they play and I dont care how they do it to be honest. Anyway, I was thinking of what managers could potentially replace the mumbling League 1 standard manager that is currently on our books when I was reading the gossip column on BBC to see that Henrick Larsson, my favourite player of all time, said that he one day wanted to manage Celtic. But he is too inexperienced at the moment, but I would love to see him manage us one day. Then that got me delving deeper into the situation. How about we sign him up as an assistant manager and recruit a reputable manager to be his mentor, but also be able to manage the team in a way that we could bring back the title to where it belongs. That got me thinking Swedish, and, I know I will get pelters but...Sven Goran Eriksson? A proven manager in Sweden, Italy and he didnt do that badly with England. He would demand a high salary but he would get the respect from the players, squeeze money out of our stingy board and have good contacts around the footballing world and I'm sure he would want the challenge to manage an old firm team. He would also mentor Larsson and being Swedish would obviously help this greatly. He would have high wages, granted, but if we sign him with the view of only keeping him for 2 or 3 seasons and then pass the reigns onto Larsson, a Celtic great, then I think we would be in good shape, back on track and out of this mess that we are currently in. Perhaps you can see it as a Smith/Mccoist type of thing, because undoubtedly Mccoist will become the manager of Rangers. I know it is Rangers, but I genuinely think Smith is a really good manager, even although he is a bit of a *. Look at the players they have. They are utter *, yet he still manages to be pumping us, a team who has players who are of mid table Premiership standard in my opinion, and his are Playoff Championship standard. It's clearly the manager that is the problem here and I think that Sven and Larsson would make good appointments, with the view to Larsson eventually becoming the manager full time after a few seasons once he has learned the tricks of the trade from a proven manager of his own nationality.

    Thoughts?

the board are tight arsed * and wouldnt fork out any doe.that is why they are persivering with TM.they squandered 2 million on him and his staff and will be reluctant to have to fork out again.we are 1 of the biggest clubs in the world and should be trying to attract * like hiddink trappatoni etc.otherwise 30 years down the line seeing celtic in the CL will be a thing of the past.

smith really good manager wot about cl humped 4-1 by gypsies, and went to epl and did sfa with everton, hes good in spl but up against a clueless tm,we need a roy hodgson type manager with good tactics and lenny as right hand man.this tm is not got a clue and i would not give him another minute at cp,up till now he has gave us one of our worst seasons since there 9 in a row and all blue noses are loving it,we could have more suffering on the way if he continues in the job,hes worse than barnes and i thot those days were behind us

Has even greater effect when I look at your avatar!:56:

This whole huff about Mowbray is getting boring now. It used to be annoying, but now it's plain stupid and pointless. He's staying, end of.

Why can't we just back the manager we have at the moment rather than whine like brats?

In all honesty, I rather keep TM than appoint Sven & Larsson as the Celtic dream team.

I find it nuts how much peoples minds keep turning to ex-players in terms of management. Ex-players are irrelevant unless they are quality managers already like Moyes. To make an ex-player with little or no experience assistant manager would be us doing them a hyge favour and of no gain to the club. Top players often do not make good managers.

Mowbray will be our manager next year. Nice and simple. Not a novel.

When I saw the title, I thought, maybe, it could be a cognitive effort to think 10 years down the track, not just another TM bash, one done with the intent of promoting a case for Erikson, at that.

Mowbray is the manager & will remain so until such time as either he steps aside or the board deem it neccessary to remove him. End of.

But, if, for no other reason I were to analyse the proposition... Get Erikson, in the premise the he could guide Larsson on the basis they are both Swedish.... I mean, ffs, do you happen to agree with everyone you work with purely based on the fact that they are the same nationality as you?

and we will still be hearing the same pish "dust ourselves down and get on with it" oh and "take it on the chin". aye tony weve took more on the chin than * frank bruno! i guarantee we will be hearing this same tripe next season if TM is still at CP. by then we will have lost out on even more cash and trophies.

One of the sad things is that some are kidding themselves that Mowbray's appointment is a "visionary" long term move by the board and that we will reap the rewards further down the line. Does anyone honestly believe that our board would willingly sacrifice another 15m drop in turnover that we could see next season to go with the expected 10m+ drop that we will see this season in the belief that we will become a genuine European force under this manager? Its the board's short termism that has put us in this state. Mowbray was brought to win the league this year and ensure that we could pick up the cash from the Champion's league next year. What we are watching is not a new team in development (with 4 loan singings ffs) but a collossal * up. Right now the Celtic board are shampooting bricks at the consequences of their incompetence, to believe anything else is deluded. Mowbray is out of his depth and they know it better than anyone.

    Too many to name.
So Larsson comes as a messiah, Celtic bomb miserably under his guidance and the whole memory of his legendary status is blown to shreds, all because some futile minds thought this was the answer to our prayers. This is a very possible scenario. Henrik is and should always be a Celtic legend and this should never be jeopardised in any fashion.

I agree, the return of a legend is never a good thing.
I would rather he left with his reputation totally untarnished.

Anyone else think Steve Bruce would do a good job here ?

I have always felt Bruce is a very shrewd and astute operator and a good man manager.

i think most fans would be happy with any manager who has plied their trade in the premiership.outwith the bottom clubs.
