Sutton or Hartson

was just wondering who you thought was the better player not just for celtic but throughout their career.

it will settle an ongoing debate with me and my mates. i went for sutton but its close.

justify your decision please

 

Sutty for me but I loved them both

 

I'd go with Sutton as well. But both of them were * outstanding. How I wish we could go back in time and see them in the hoops again.

 

Sutton for me ,he was more flexible than Hartson and could play a number of positions ,Sutty and Shearer together were fantastic and i believe Shearer wouldnt have scored as many goals as he did without Sutty .
Then at Celtic again Sutty and Henrik ,same again Sutton made a lot for Henrik and there partnership was amazing to watch .

I remember Kenny Dalglish saying once also that Sutton was a better Centre Half than he was a forward ,he did play for Celtic a few times at the back and he was very comfortable there ,fantastic player he was.

 

both were amazing but i think sutty by a very small margin.

 

Loved them both but big Chris for me, loved the guy, his bullet header against ajax was one of my favourite goals of his, not to mention his volley against juve and the 90th minute shot/lob against the huns!

Can remember he played centre half at Ibrox, along side Laursen (I think it was). We won 0-1, Hartson scoring early in the second half. Sutton was absolutely outstanding that day.

100% hartson for me,not because im welsh but for the pride and passion he put in for whatever club he played for,his best years were playing for celtic and for me his best goal was against liverpool,I had the pleasure of meeting john once at a hotel where the wales team were staying,He took time out to sit down with me and some of my mates for a couple of beers absolute legend in my eyes

 

Hartson was a good solid frontman, and I've nothing but good things to say about him, but my vote would have to go with Sutton.

He not only formed aa formidable partnership with Henrik, he was also deployed as a CM & CB and you knew he would not let you down. He could create as well as finish, could tackle & was strong in the air. We definately got the best years out of him. I've no doubt about that, but prior to his time with us he scored plenty for Norwich & formed a strong partnership with Shearer (SAS) in helping Blackburn win their Premiership.

Both were incredible assets to Celtic, and wish we had either of them nowadays.

two players id bite your hand off for now, knew what it meant to play for this club and left everything out on the pitch. big sutton just shades it for me because he was a bit cleverer at reading the game and setting up chances for henrik, and he could also play just about anywhere! both class acts though and have great memories of the two of them. big johns goal against liverpool is one of my favourite ever celtic goals because of its significance, and as has been mentioned sutton played a blinder at the back at ibrox and goals such as his volley vs. juve and his double in the 6-2 were top stuff

 

Hartson was a excellent player for us but Sutton for me was the all round better player. Could play anywhere on the park and still be one of the best players on the pitch. His partnership and understanding with larsson was fantastic.

 

This should be, but isn't a hard question! Both players were brilliant, but if you had to choose one over the other, ie, Hart or Sutt, everyone and I mean everyone ,would choose SUTTON and here's why.

3 * brilliant
4 Was classy
5 Knew how to take a penalty
6 Sutton and Shearer
7 Last minute goal against the Gers
8 That hand thingy he did when he scored
9 Hated publicity
10 The CL goals - especially Juve!!!

But ultimately, I loved him 'cos 10 years before he signed for us, he was the type of player who the gers would have loved to sign. (But I also love Hartson!!!!!)

Will never forget the night when Big John smashed the second in at Anfield, was watching the game with my old man that night...don't think I've ever seen him jump so high in my life. What a goal, what a player.

 

Definitely Chris Sutton. Could play numerous positions and every striker partnership he was in with, he was fantastic in. Chris never let you down, no matter where you played him.

Don't get me wrong, what I'd do for a player with John Hartsons ability and passion in the current Celtic squad, loved the big man too.


Both quality but there's only one Chris Sutton. * make that three, Striker,Midfield & Defence.

 

Two great Celtic players and very difficult to seperate them. Hartson was probably that bit better of a finisher in front of goal. But Sutton was probably that bit better technically and more of an a versatile player so for that reason I just give the nod to Chris Sutton.
