    Yep,sing whatever you want.

Too many people are happy to sit at games with no atmosphere, and dont say, sing more Celtic songs and others will join in,because i heard the attempt at Willie Maley last night....didnt get sung by the rest of the crowd.

So i dont give a * what is sung at games, just get the atmosphere going.

    Hail Hail

The idea that politics should be kept out of football seems misplaced to me, since it implies that under normal circumstances football does not involve politics. This is very far from being true. Football is absolutely riddled with politics, and if we the fans ignore the fact, the politics doesn't go away - it just takes place without our knowledge or contribution.

It always struck me as supremely ironic that those who protested against John Reid's chairmanship of Celtic were told by some others that they should "keep politics out of football" - when in fact the introduction of a huge fat slab of politics at the upper end of the club was precisely what they were protesting against.

Anyone who reckons, for example, that John Reid's political links had no bearing on his getting the Celtic job, is living in a dreamworld.

Far as the rebel songs go, I am of the opinion that people should sing whatever they want, as long as it doesn't directly incite hatred of others. There are plenty of rebel songs which I find quite acceptable in a free society, just as there are a number of Rangers' historical songs that I find acceptable.

By contrast, "If you hate the * Rangers clap your hands" I won't sing, cos I don't hate anyone - and if I did, I wouldn't want to sing about it.

We are praised for our fantastic support and have been for years. All that time these rebel songs have been sung so your point about it giving us a bad name is wrong. The only bad press we get is from the pro hun media, who gives a * what they say ? Although I take it you do...

Telling a sizeable element of our support to stay away just because you don't agree with them
Not the same question at all as the huns songbook is full of vile sectatian anthems full of hatred. Ours is not.
    What's your point ?
And again, what's your point ? You don't need to be Irish or have been to Ireland to support the Republican cause. What are these people ? Plastic paddies ?
    Totally agreed buddy.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs and the music of their native lands (* bless Bobby Sands !! ) :celt_2:

That's irrelevent. What's important is whether he is using Celtic for political purposes. He isn't, which is more than a lot our fans can say.

    Absolute rubbish !!

The lads that sing the rebs and partake in all the other political aspects are extremely passionate about the club as well, for you to doubt this is just nonsense.

What is certain is that I will stick up for the rank and file rather than John * Reid.

Thats the way i feel now. Parkhead is turning into a * library these days and i dont care what we sing as long as the atmosphere is back thats what counts. Last night i couldnt hear any real Celtic songs on TV except YNWA a few times and The Celtic Song. Apart from that you could hear rebel songs being sung by a fair number and quite clearly. If it gets us going again thats the main thing for now, and im not against the songs anyway to begin with.

I don't think anyone that says they shouldn't be sung have said they are offensive, what many are saying is that Celtic Park is not the appropriate place for them and that they can cause divisions in our support, at a time when we need unity more than ever.

Some fans are put off by the republican songs, not because they find them offensive, but because they have no interest in Irish Republicanism and feel they have nothing to do with our club. You don't have to be a republican to support us.

Of course you don't have to be a republican to support us however a sizeable element of our support do have sympathy with the Republican cause.

If you want to sing them then do so, if not then sing a song that you would like to such as Willie Maley. No one would have any problems with that. Simples.

Its a bit sad that people are saying while watching football we need rebel songs to get the crowd going. That makes no sense at all. If its politics that gets you going and football doesnt light your fire then maybe its time to cut out the football and stick to politics. As for those who say anything goes as long as it gets an atmosphere going, that is a bit crazy. There are more important things than the atmosphere at a football ground!

So you would say that a company who drafts in a high-profile politician as its chairman is a good example of "keeping politics out of business"?

You would say that if, for example, in the 1930s Adolf Hitler has been drafted in as chairman of Bayern Munich, it would be OK as long as he didn't openly use the club for political purposes? And that anyone who raised their voice in protest would, by contrast, be guilty of using the club for political purposes?

To be honest, I find the logic of that quite hard to follow.

Yes if they get the crowd going definitely. The atmsophere is so bad we can't be overly-fussy about the songs we sing.

I reckon its possible that alot of the fans who dont sing rebel songs, don't sing at all.

He's entitled to his opinion as much as the next person without you telling him where to go.
