Gunt...Mowbray is working on the team that Strachan left behind last season.

Remind us all what Strachan won with his "tools" last season.

I appreciate all that Strachan done for our club....but we have to admit he has left behind a poor team.

:50:Can you imagine how tough it was for him. By all accounts a real obsessive who busted his balls for us, spent ages personally coaching, went to most of the reserve and youth games etc. I doubt any man ever tried harder for the club.

Martin O'Neill left Strachan a poor, aging team and no one has put him to the sword for it. I think the UEFA Cup final might have something to do with that though. Strachan will be seen as a Celtic legend in time. I remember a certain Fergus McCann that everyone hated but only now his work for Celtic is being viewed as incredible.
I don't know what is wrong with some people. He's left now so why do people feel the need to consistantly knock the wee guy?

The best football we played under Gordon Strachan(in my opinion) was in his first season as manager. The spine of the team that year was Balde, Lennon, Petrov and Hartson. All MON's players. As soon as Strachan dismantled that the * football began.

I think Strachan done a good job in that first season but its hardly accurate to say that Martin O'Neill left him nothing to work with.

He never went to the paper, they went to him for a story after Mogga slated the Celtic players.
What did you expect him to say.
'Ahem! I bought a load of * players and left them for the next manager so get it up ye!.'

He left him having to rebuild the team as a neccessity. The players were getting on and had peaked in 2003. Strachan had no choice but to rebuild but had limited funds to do it. He did fantastic given the circumstances. Imagine if he had been given a decent transfer budget.

All players that Strachan was told to phase out of the first team because of their age and wages.

He should have said, * off you hun * and go over to Ibrox where the real story is. Kicked him in the nuts and went in to eat his nearly out of date yogurt.:icon_mrgreen:

    Or.

I m no longer the manager of Celtic and do not comment on how other men run their teams. go ask tony.

These are not bad players. Clearly under Strachan they excelled. Great points raised by other sensible fellows in this thread, the doubters simply don't know football.

Guys, read beyond the sensationalist bullshit and read what WGS actually said.

Its over the top * tabloid journalism designed to wind us up as ever before a match.

Its unbelievable the amount of people that are taken in by the headlines.

Then they complain when Strachan doesnt like them for twisting his words :31:

Why should he not comment? He owes Celtic nothing. He was employed by the club and now he's moved on.
If someone at your old workplace said something about the state of your old workbench would you give a fiddlers * about it?

It took WGS three years to NOT find a LB.

TM found one in a few weeks, enough said really..

The team that he finished with had a poor last few months but most of the players have played in the CL with reasonable distinction (certainly miles better than out recent European efforts), many had played in at least one of the last 16 campaigns and I think all had won the SPL ar least once, including against a UEFA final reaching Rangers side. Quite a few have had a big role across several of these years of success. This is a bunch of players who are winners. Not some group who are not good enough. Not good enough for what? Makes no sense when you look at their successes.

Mowbray is wrong. The team has weak links which ruin the whole balance, like a serious lack of quality at CB and CF but the basic standard in most positions (Goalie, FBs, CM, wingers) is as good as you will get with our market position and to be honest there are not many Celtic sides in the last few decades that have been overall stronger in those positions. Get a couple of really good strikers and a rock of a CB in and this will be as good a team as most Celtic sides in the last few decades.

The more Mogga talks (and by ghod he likes to) the more I am worried that he wants his pipedream of a side in his own image than he wants a sensible quick strengthening of a couple of weak areas. A lot of fans are being taken in by this dream talk but we have heard this all before with Barnes. Unless you have an EPL budget you cant arrive with a fixed model or blueprint of how you want to play and ignore the reality of the players you have and are likely to be able to afford. The word 'Barnes' just keeps flashing.
