please stop giving us this "mcgeady is marked by 3 players" crap. i said it in another thread, and il say it again in this one.

he never gets marked by 3 players, and watching the hamburg game last night, the most players he had on him was 2, and thats because he's in a danger area where the opposition's defenders NEED to retain possesion.

saying "he gets marked by 3 players" is just the get out of jail free card for him, and im sick of it. if anybody can show me a game where mcgeady constantly has 3 people, *, even 2 people on him constantly ( like people on here make out ), then il happily eat my own words, but just watch him playing, and if you have the first bit of knowledge about playing football, then you'l realise its the defenders doing their job of stopping the attack, NOT the managers "tactic" to double, or even triple up.

    honestly... some people on here..

I imagine people mean that defenders tend to double up on him, when he has the ball. Then again, he invites it, by holding onto the ball for too long and checking back, time and again. Get Tosh McKinlay out to Lennoxtown to show him how to hit a byline cross. We have no * flow.

If Mccourt is fit, he should start.

McGeady should be first name on the teamsheet every week so I would drop Maloney and play McCourt. Maloney was hardly in the game against Hamburg.

But to be fair it's not our wide players that are the problem, it's our strikers. We don't have anyone that can score at the minute.

January can't come quick enough so we can bring in another striker.

I like Paddy and McGinn, Paddy has undoubted skill to go past people with ease. But what about tracking back ? Both Aiden and Shaun are willing to track back, Paddy is lazy at this ! True, Paddy would be effective in the hole with the freedom it brings. You can't criticize the wingers for not putting crosses in last night, when our striker is a midget !

I'm not surprised that McCourt and McGinn made a good impact last night. Because Mowbray has them down as *impact* players! It's not a co-incidence!

I'm not sure we can justify starting McCourt on the wing yet, the difference in tracking back even when he came on fresh between him and McGeady/Maloney is huge. He just doesn't really do it and fair enough, that's his style. But against big teams in Europe I think we can only get away with him as an impact player coming on after McGeady's ran them ragged, or alternatively behind the striker in a free role.

McGinn on the other hand while not having such direct impact, looked to be at least the equal of Maloney, especially in terms of tracking back. One incident where he skinned one guy on the line and then knocked the ball past a second (only to be fouled in my opinion, and the ball to run out of play) was sheer class - let's not forget this is a team top of the Bundesliga.

So in terms of a first 11, I see McGeady being far and away first pick, McGinn catching up fast on Maloney (2nd pick) and McCourt still picking away at learning how to defend / fitness. Paddy is a better impact player but McGinn is closer to a starting berth imo.

Exactly, this is why we can't start him against a team like Hamburg who'll have someone like Elia on the wing. Against Hamilton however....

I'd agree with Mikey, until McCourt improves his tracking back, something he has admitted himself he needs to do, then he'll be considered an impact sub.

He has all the skills now is the time to show he has the determinition as well.

I thought Maloney was pish and has been poor for a while. Would always play McGeady because his pace is something we need. At the weekend I'd play the same defence and midfield with McCourt in a free role behind McD or Sammy who are both pish so either one can start. Prob prefer Sammy actually. Get McCourt on the ball in areas where he can create.

mcgeady and maloney are just as bad as each other they both get into decent positions by neither can cross. At the moment while fortune is out and always before samaras i would play either of them up front behind macdonald.

mcginn and mccourt down the wings, robson and zz in the middle.

brown and caldwell to go in Jan

IMO a wingers main job is to beat a player and then play a ball into the box. Supplying his forwards with chances to score. Our problem is that this is rarely the case.

I know Strachan was a fan of playing left footed wingers on the right and vice versa and I understand the reason for that. I just don't agree with it. Neither of our wingers supply the final ball. Maybe it is because our forwards are so lightweight/slow or positionally challenged or maybe neither of them can cross with their bad foot.

I mentioned in another thread about our lack of goals from set pieces.( I could be wrong but only remember 1.Loovens against Hearts). This is another example of even when we get a chance to put the ball in the box we have nobody with the ability to finish it off.

Being honest I have to say that our wingers are the strongest part of our team whether it be any of the four mentioned. So I am going to blame the strikers for making them look bad.:50:

    * :56:He's been here for nearly 2 years and he's still not fit! There are too many people who just love this guy coz he's Irish if you ask me! He doesn't deserve a place in the starting 11 and the sooner people take their Irish tinted glasses off the better! :31:

Maloney isnt as affective as McGeady ,you dont see Maloney going one on one with defenders as in taking him on ,McGeady does that .

Well depends wot you mean by effective....

They both lack a final ball but McGeady even more so for me! Even last nite Maloney was more effective than McGeady IMO, he put through good passes for Wilson a few times but his cross was crap!

I don't subscribe to this theory that McCourt has to get fitter to track back. that is not his game and if we try to make it so it would be the ruin of him. If we are so bad that we can not accomodate him in the SPL and have confidence in our defenders to defend with the aid of our midfielders then we should chuck it.
MON made the same mistake with Moravcik until he discovered what a talent he had .
