yes but in the previous system, you didnt get the likes of pana playing athleti or us playing arsenal. liverpool played leige if i am not wrong last season. thats the difference. you are removing the best teams in qualifying here.

Possibly, but seeing as how none of us managed to win our leagues... I don't get what the big deal is.
Look at it this way: we SHOULD win the league more times than not. If we win the league having champions brought in makes our group stage that much easier.
But I also prefer from a neutral standpoint. There is nothing wrong with involving more countries in CL rather than having it be the same 7 or 8 every single year and playing * Benfica for the umpteenth time.

yes but we seem to be going out when inferior teams would be making it to the group stages. playing benfica so many times does get boring but its fair in my opinion. the teams that deserve to go through should only play in the groups. it increases the competition. the level of football will not rise with small teams making it to the groups because they would be getting thrashed plus teams with a thin squad playing in the group stages do seem to suffer in the league thus damaging their chances to feature in next season's competition :). but i may be * at us on the verge of going out so soon

just thinking (ouch)...if we do drop into the Europa League and we get to the quarter finals (which i think should be a minimum expectation) we will raise our coefficiency more than if we got to the CL last 16 (silver lining?)

Even getting to Europa last-16 can easily be more points than CL last-16. It's insane, but Europa is the best way to build these retarded coefficient points.

Celtic get to last-16 of CL twice: 12 points both times
Huns get to last-16 of Uefa once: 14 points
Huns getting to the final of Uefa was worth 22 points.

    Shocking.

    This year they're 28th with 56.575 points.
    We're 48th with 40.575

Next year they'll be 20th with 53.891 points.
    We'll be 47th with 34.891

Shocking considering we made it to CL 16 twice. The difference is all in Huns finishing 3rd in their group and getting to the final.

Yes. CL and Europa Group stages have the same structure now. Groups of 4, everyone plays home and away, top 2 go to the next round.
Group #1s play Group #2s in the first knockout stage.

We've had hellish luck with the draw in the qualifiers for the CL so let's hope we get a winnable group in the EL.

We need the co-eff points, so im not that fussed about going into the europa i actually wanted it that way to beef up our seeding for later seasons. i got stick for having this attitude and got the usual ragers will get all the money etc etc, well to me that ship sailed when we blew the league.......get in the europa get a few wins under our belts and lets secure seedings for future champs league draws by having a good run.

Looking at those pots just shows what a joke the whole UEFA seeding process is. There are top quality teams in all 4 pots and teams that don't belong in pots 1 and 2.

With the way the Champions League and Europa League have been restructured the group stages in the Champions League will be watered down a bit with some weak League Champion teams qualifying while good non Champions teams go into the Europa League. So if we end up in the Europa League there will be a lot of quality teams involved.

Exactly its a joke and people seem to think we will have it easy and go on a great wee run in the Europa, far from it. dont want to be too negative but alot of teams there could give us a right good game and even beat us at CP. So if we do end up in it we really havee to be on th top of our game with some of the dangerous * we could get.

If we're going to Europa I think it'd be a huge disappointment to not make it through the groups. The competition will definitely be stronger than it has been in recent years, and the seeding is also laughable but I think Europa is a competition where we should expect to compete.

four leaf clover, just cant get enough.
I would love for us to go on a run in the UEFA cup ( I will not call it its new name) as long as it doesnt hurt our league run. Hopefully we will be through to the last 16 and champions of Scotland by new year :icon_mrgreen:.

I could see us doing some serious damage in the Europa and I would love for us to win it and show Rangers and all of England how to go abroad and not wreck the town.

I agree whoever gets Fulham is *. I have been following them for a while and they got pretty good out of nowhere. I would fly to England and drive Clint Dempsey up to Glasgow if he would do it.

back to the UEFA cup. Right now we cant really compete in the CL, I can see a day when we can do it again and its not that far off but If we could get a good run in the UEFA this year and win the league I think we will be pretty set for Cl next year. If the champion of a country ahead of us wins the Cl and we win the league, clear to the groups stages. I think this is realistic.
