As I said in my OP, way back when, the rolling around on the mat does nothing for me. I can appreciate the technique and skill involved, but for me it is just not exciting. Watching a guy hold another guys arm for 10 seconds before he taps out doesn't get me on the edge of my seat like two men standing face to face and going at it.

I understand your point, and i also hated the wrestlers initially....felt they were spoiling it a bit, but having seen a few broken bones now from guys that didnt tap out, i respect that aspect more than i used to, and i certainly understand it more technically, which helps.

The more you watch the more you appreciate the ground game. When I first started watching I hated the fight going to thr mat, now i appreciate the skill involved I don't mind if a fight goes that way.

Don't get me wrong I hate lay and pray fighters like Fitch, prefer when grapplers go for the finish rather than stall and neutralise their opponents. Muxh prefer watching guys like lauzon, nogueira and Mir who can turn a grappling match exciting.

You can't beat two guys going toe to teo though your right.

Will overtake Boxing this decade as the biggest combat sport in the world. PPV figures already match the biggest Boxing events.

Its a constantly evolving sport, hence the short span for most World Champions. Other fighters watch them and devise strategies for beating them. One fighter would need to be prolific in each discipline in order to be unbeatable. Only GSP and Anderson Silva are at that level just now, I think. Frankie Edgar is heading that way.

I practice martial arts and this maybe helps when fighters seem to be just holding each other. Sometimes this can be as exciting as a stand up brawl if you appreciate what is going on.

    Love it as a sport.

That part in particular intrigues me.....as you know from experience, if you've had a couple of scrapes in your life, that there is a chess match going on in their heads.....trying to defend whilst searching for a weakness!
Thats where i think its attraction lies in a way.Very few people have done boxing, but we have all had a square go, and this is just a square go taken to the nth degree, and we can all feel how a fight is going.

Exactly, grappling for position, looking for specific holds or chokes. It is great to watch at times.

Sometimes it can be boring if fighters arent skilled or arent doing anything.

Just like a poor boxing match.

As someone who was never enjoyed boxing at all I didnt think I would like UFC but I got into it a couple of years ago and I love it. I still find boxing rather tedious but I think UFC is so much more interesting and as said above there is so much going on it the ring at any one time. It is a blend of power and aggression mixed with patience and strategy and as the sport has progressed it is interesting to see fighters adapt and readapt to new fighters and new blends on martial arts.

Probably the only sport outside football I get excited about.

My wife is a HUGE fan of the UFC. Orders every pay-per-view and We even seen it live when it came to town. I personally have nothing against MMA, but the UFC is definitely not my cup of tea. Dana White is sexist. He said himself that he won't let women fighters into the UFC. They aired promotional fight videos that have homophobic slurs. Even showed Rampage Jackson in Japan having Japanese people say in English "I have a small *" and "I'm gay" and * like that. He has a Japanese wife. The machismo is through the roof. Beer, *, violence (and war)... I do like Joe Rogan as a comedian, though.

I have no objection to women participating in anything they want, but i do not want to watch them fighting, and i am sure i am not alone.
It is a free(ish) market out there, and if they attract the audience, im sure they will prosper, but its not for me.

He might not let them in the UFC, but they are in Strikeforce, and they are now also owned by the UFC parent company.
Stay in Strikeforce for me......if they do well, fair enough.

It just doesn't seem fair... I think in due time with the UFC's popularity there will be more women fighters and Dana will have dollar signs in his eyes.

I dont see it myself mate.Female boxing has been around for years, but no-one really wants to watch it.There will be an audience, there is an audience in Strikeforce, but i dont believe it is box office.

    I completely agree.

Watching women fighting is one of the least appealing things in the world to me. It's unattractive and it just looks wrong.

If that makes me old fashioned or sexist then so be it. Like you, it's not for me.

I've never really got into UFC. I don't even like boxing so maybe it's that. I used to train with the MMA boys in Cambridge just for fitness and it was brilliant. Proper workout. As for two woman fighting, not for me. Not being sexist just don't want to see anyone smacking the * out of another person. Take football (women) they have a decent enough amount of skill. It's just too slow to watch, great to see so many girls and women getting involved in the game though. Hopefully my daughter will enjoy the game when she is older.

*, i think that is now a couple of times we have agreed in the last year..........something clearly wrong!:icon_mrgreen:
I understand the highlighted bit, as i feel the same when i see a real fight(and afterwards when i have occasionally been involved in one)....it sickens me, but i feel more cushioned and able to enjoy it when i see it in a controlled environment.

i prefer watching stand up fighting like k1 max.k1 at one time was good to watch but thats just full of fat dicks trying to fight.ufc is probably the no1 fighting there is because of the amount of arts the guys train in but going to the ground slows the pace of the fight which i dont like.if you dont know what k1 max is put it into youtube and have a look.its not as good as thai either but its as near as youll get on tv.

That's a tad unfair in my opinion. Fitch may not be the biggest submission artist in the world, but he certainly doesn't just hold people down. The officials don't allow that to happen these days, and I have to ask, when can you remember a Fitch fight where the ref stood both fighters up for inactivity?

Fitch takes people down and * them up. He's constantly punching & elbowing, and is always active & looking to improve his position.

I dont love Fitch to watch, but i still quite like the guy.For me, the most annoying aspect of UFC, are the arseholes that boo every time a fight goes to ground or up against the cage.I want to see it develop, or at least feel the two fighters have a chance to see out a position before the inevitable pressure from the ref, under pressure himself, from the numpties in the crowd!

It's incredible. There's so much to MMA - striking, wrestling, jiu-jitsu - and once you start to learn what's going on, it's so entertaining. There's some fights that are a little dull, but that's to expected in any combat sport. I can't get enough of it.
