Again it depends on what he achieves as a Celtic Manager but no-one will top Jock Stein due to the European Cup but I don't think he's been mentioned once in this thread? Which is odd.

Lenny had a great Celtic career with us, was a stalwart of two teams that did very well in Europe and won a lot of trophies. If he stays for as long as I hope he will 10+ years winning titles then he'll be in contention.

There's a lot of luck involved in stuff like this though, if Paul McStay played in any other era except the 90's he would be involved in conversations like this for me.

The vote is just now though. Any of the rest you could make a case for but i dont think you could make a case for Lennon at this time.

Loved John Collins and Paul McStay when i was a nipper in the 90's. Loved Lambert, he was just class, had that aura of a European Cup Winner about him(wonder why). But like nearly everyone else would say........... Henrick!!!

Already well evident in this poll.

Jimmy McGrory has just 4 votes - the same number as Neil Lennon.

Considering McGrory scored 550 goals in 547 appearances (472 goals in 445 league games) for a Celtic team that for much of his Celtic career was not particularly successful is simply amazing. No one comes within coo-ee of that kind of return.

Quite a few names that should have been on that poll are omitted... the likes of Quinn, McMenemy, Shaw, Gallagher, Tully, Peacock, Lennox, McGrain, McStay... to name but a few.

The problem with that is, nobody actually knows how McGrory played as well as the likes of Tully and Gallagher. People tend to go from the 60's onwards.

Lenny as a player and captain (part of the time) won 5 league titles, 4 Scottish cups, 2 league cups and reached a European final.

As a manager he has one his first title already and hopefully is on course for at 4/5 in a row (hopefully more)

He also has done all this under a backdrop of vile bigotry, assaults, bombs in the post and bullets through his mailbox.

He is without doubt one of the greatest ever Celts in my eyes. Not the greatest ever but should be mentioned in the same way Tommy and Paul McStay are, imo.

That's basically what I was trying to get at. Also made a European final and the Last 16. Not too bad in Europe.

Well some were doubting the merits of Lennon when you said

"Depends what you mean by greatest ever Celt I suppose"

"Not yet, could yet end up it though"

"I'm talking about his full Celtic career but both as a player and a manager"

"Lenny had a great Celtic career with us, was a stalwart of two teams that did very well in Europe and won a lot of trophies. If he stays for as long as I hope he will 10+ years winning titles then he'll be in contention"

Then you say your not trying to make a case for him.

    "I'm not trying to"

    Then go back to

"That's basically what I was trying to get at. Also made a European final and the Last 16. Not too bad in Europe"

Excuse me for being a bit mixed up but seems like you are making a case despite what you say.

I'll make it simple for you then, where have I said he is the Greatest Ever Celt? What Sean said I 100% agree on, he isn't the Greatest Ever Celt but he deserves to be recognised for what he has done for Celtic. The man is a Celtic Legend, pure and simply that. Not the Greatest Ever Celt but a Great nontheless.

I never said you said he was the greatest ever Celt. Where did i say that?? When some where questioning the merits of Lennon you were the one who stood up for him. So if you dont think he is the greatest ever Celt then why did you bother??

    Nice picture by the way.

You said I was making a case for him, on the Greatest Ever Celt thread, the same one I've said Henrik Larsson is mines about 3 times now...

Because this is a forum and I think he deserves mentioned, even at that my original post that you picked on was about Tommy Burns. Although I have said several times by the time his full Celtic career is over he might be.

Can I ask you, why are you bothered about that?

    Cheers, I quite like it.

The thread is about "your greatest ever Celt". The poll is about who you think is your greatest Celt ever. You have said in your post he is not the greatest ever so why are you even discussing him in this thread??
