FMJ doesn't add range it only adds to the overall damage of a weapon. Useful with close quarters guns such as sub machine/shotgun/handgun.

The range on the models has always been good, when you use akimbo but no FMJ on occasion it will take a closer encounter to kill him with one shot but with FMJ that added damage brings them down faster IE:eek:ne shot so in effect it add an illusion that the range is much improved.

FMJ also helps with shooting through objects but that's really all the benefits.

PS> * playing on xbox! Bunch o cheats man,way to many exploits, none of which i've ever seen on the ps3 version..

fmj doesn't add damage marty. fmj is basically deep impact from cod4. have you tried comparing akimbo to akimbo plus fmj? you all just keep saying fmj doesn't add range which is what im saying. what im mean is when the 1887's where patched they patched only the akimbo part of it. if there was another attachment for the model 1887's say grip for example. with that on plus akimbo using bling pro it would be the same as pre- patched 1887's because they only patched the akimbo aspect of it. it does sound stupid and i thought that too when i seen videos and people saying it on forums but then i used it in matches and tested in out in split screen and private matches and there is definelty a difference( i am pretty * at explaining stuff but when you hit 67 again i recommend trying it out:50:). as for all the cheaters it is getting so annoying so last night in GW when people where doing it i thought i would follow them around and spoil the party . stupidly they kept doing it in the same game lobby so every new game that started it was my duty to find them. now im just runing around with tactical knife marathon lightweight it is a pretty fun change from the boring camping that goes on in TDM domination etc

FMJ (full metal jacket) is for one purpose and only one...To add more damage. You go set up a class and then select for instance the spaz..nw when selecting the attachment put on FMJ and you will see it has added damage (denotes to a green increase)

This 'FMJ' attachment is to deliver more deadly shots with less accurate weapons although it can be combined with almost all weapons and it's sole purpose is to inflict damage both straight up or through cover,as is real life FMJ clips.

PS.. FMJ adds the illusion of added range when infact its added power.

You shoot someone with an m9 it will take anywhere between 4-6 rounds to down a man from aprox 15 yards you add FMJ it will down him with aprox 2-4 depended on hit local. It's all just an illusion.

fmj is exxactly like deep impact from call of duty 5 and call of duty 4 which didn't add damage to exposed targets

from the call of duty wiki

Full Metal Jacket, often shortened to FMJ, is a weapon attachment in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Its effects on penetration are completely identical to those of Deep Impact from previous Call of Duty games. It does not increase damage against exposed targets. Instead, it reduces the amount of damage lost when shooting through materials.

this is the mw2 damage chart

Modern Warfare 2 Weapons Damage Chart

it is small writing but i think i can see that the m9 does 40 damage at close range which makes it 3 bullets for a kill plus there is nothing saying that fmj will add damage to the weapons.

The wiki is wrong, that added damage accounts for no loss of power when shooting through cover (the FMJ in cod works just as it does in real terms)

I use FMJ religiously with my spaz for one simple reason: That being without FMJ i sometimes shoot a dude pretty much right there in front of me yet it will take two rounds, with FMJ it kills him dead and the only time i need another round is if i misplace my shot n shoot away from critical locations or I'm simply 1-2 yards off-range.

The whole system works as it should with a full metal casing.

I would seriously dispute that FMJ does not give added bite to exposed targets because it clearly does which is why it's the attachment of choice for me and all my secondary weapons.

Stopping power perk is what i use before i unlock FMJ on each individual weapon both do exactly the same thing but with the unlocking of FMJ comes the unlocking of other possibilities.

For example: (pre FMJ) intervention and spaz 12 with marathon stopping power and ninja.

(post FMJ) intervention spaz12 with FMJ thus allowing me to drop stopping power and use another perk such as coldblooded or any of the other perk2 options.

In play mate it will take at least 4-6 rounds at a 12yard position you add FMJ to the mix and that number gets slashed considerably.

Like i said create the class and look at what happens to the overall damage,it gets increased (by different measures dependant on weapon of choice) there is no stats for penetration is there?....

FMJ's damage increase simply aids in penetration because the projectile is in effect meant to be stronger than that of the regular clip and with aiding in penetration it has an OVERKILL effect on any exposed target.

maybe for the spas it does. there is a * of a lot of * ups by IW in this game but im 100% sure it only adds damage through walls etc and thats why it shows the extra damage when you look at the stats

i tell you what the TAR is a very underrated gun. Just finished a TD with a 38/12. Its got good range, fairly accurate and a fire rate on par with a sub-machine.

Dude i use (or have) akimbo and FMJ as far as I'm concerned FMJ is to increase damage and nothing else. Increasing of damage will ofcourse aid in penetration but it does so because of how tough the round is wrapped in its full metal jacket LOL honestly,i know what FMJ is and i can assure you COD has it implemented in a way that reflects life albeit slightly exaggerated.

Lets see if the cod players here agree on my assessment of what FMJ actually does and what effects it has on exposed targets.

FMJ DOES increase damage. I use it on my UMP and it downs opponents alot quicker than without it.

so some people on a celtic forum know more than damage charts , cod wiki and the vast majority of cod players? to get extended mags you need to get 40 bullet penetration kills with fmj. that is what fmj is for. it is deep impact and as someone said earlier in the thread it's for wallbangs. and glen ump deals 40 damage which is a 3 shot kill so your saying you kill them in 2 shots or less? i really doubt that.anyway i dont want to sit and argue over an attachment on a game what is your favourite and worst maps ? my favourite if either sub base or skidrow . they feel cod4-ish in a way since smg actually have a chance. my worst would have to be wasteland i NEVER get a good score on that one but my brother who is pretty rubbish gets decent scores on it....

Just came back to this thread and I see what you're saying now Ronan. So it's not the FMJ in general, it's a glitch with FMJ Akimbo 1880's..

No lol FMJ's sole purpose is to increase damage.... increasing damage will then in turn AID with penetration.

The FMJ challenge is just that it's a challenge nothing more.

To get the shotgun on a riffle you need to do the grenade launcher challenge.. So your argument holds no substance.

Folk really need to understand what a round with full metal jacket is before getting into debate about it's effects on said round. To say it increases range and is only used to kill folk behind cover is wrong and misinformed.

The simple solution here is to get you and a friend to try it out.. use a hand gun as it's best suited to prove this point.

Have your mate stand a few feet away from you (use ingame objects to get the distance the same each time) now shoot him with the m9 (or similar) without FMJ.. and repeat with FMJ.. then come back here and tell me I'm wrong,i have a cloth to wipe the egg away. :icon_mrgreen:

watch the video marty then tell me akimbo plus fmj doesnt add range. im not saying fmj IN GENERAL adds range IW only patched AKIMBO the left out fmj. i gave you the damage charts. supposedly thats wrong. i gave you the cod wiki supposedly thats wrong i have showed all of you videos to show the glitch i wonder if that will be wrong too?? just because fmj in a movie or IRL does add damage doesnt mean in a game it does. do you think having a silencer on a rpd then firing 300 bullets the silencer would just be normal?

Your whole argument is based on one glitched weapon!! you could have saved me the bother by saying its 'one weapon one glitch',you made it out that FMJ is meant to do said things when clearly these said things are not supposed to happen but folk have exploited bad code.

Secondly adding a silencer to any gun will cause lose of range but I'm guessing you have a glitch for this too?

Ps: My point stands FMJ is to increase damage thus assisting in penetration kills and within this game that means downing folk faster weras in real life it would actually take more hits as FMJ is specifically designed to go through object thus leaving soldiers wounded but not dead due to the through and through.

Next time you want to debate what FMJ is and what it does, structure your post so we know you refer to one weapon and a particular glitch instead of generalising it and making it seem that, that's what the thing is for when it's clearly a bunch of noobs taking advantage of a bug to gain an advantage.
