Owen Coyle next Celtic Manager? (Threads merged)

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by doctor venglos, May 24, 2009.

  1. Coyle came 5th in one of the most competative leagues in Europe with a budget of almost nothing. The championship has 24 teams ffs he is a good manager.

  2. Peter Martin on radio Clyde just said he expects him to be the new manager in days.

  3. In all his years at Arsenal, Burnley were the first lower league side to knock him out a cup competition :50:

  4. irish radio just said 'celtic have had a meeting with him earlier in the week'

  5. In terms of resources, size of squad and quality of players Burnley are nowhere near 5th. So that shows what kind of achievement it is.

  6. no ones saying he's not a good manager some people just belive celtic could aim a bit higher if people like bilic say they would be intrested then thats who we should go for or even other big name managers the worst they can do is say no

  7. I know, Burnely were 75-1 promotion odds at the start of the season. And he also beat L'pool, Chelsea and Everton remember.

  8. This isn't Football Manager, you don't just go knocking Wenger and Mourinho's door and ask them if they want to manage Celtic. It simply doesn't happen.

You go for a realistic target and then you don't end up with a 12th choice manager who knows he is and so do the fans.

Knee * appointment of a manager who has had one good season and has no top flight experience.

If this happens it will be absolute confirmation of the continuing downsizing of investment and ambition which WGS suffered from.

  9. I with ya! Originally i really wanted Coyle, and still do over the others, yet Bilic to me would be amazing! and i just cant help but think the board would be missing a trick not to sign him if he wants to go to Celtic!

Saying that, Bilic hasn't proven himself at club level like Coyle has! And he has done wonders at Burnley with a crap budget! Just Europe i would be a bit worried about, which is something i could really see bilic excelling at!:/

Whoever it is, i will back them! I just want the board to make the best decision for the club, the team, and the supporters, rather than for a financial reason!

    Hail Hail!

  10. Because with the compensation we would have to pay the Croatian FA there would be less for transfers, there must be a balance remember. Id rather Coyle with 10million to spend than Billic with 1million.

  11. i want billic !!! :ranting2:

  12. the compensation surely couldnt be that much is he not paid penuts by the coratian fa

  13. Total lack of ambition from the board, AGAIN! Here we had a top and highly sought after international manager saying he is interested in coming to Celtic, but we opt for Burnley manager, the same manager who couldn't get St Johnstone promoted.

I hope to * this works out.

  14. Or want rather.:icon_mrgreen:

  15. i see what you are saying but remember these were all one off cup games and that not uncommon down there. could he do that week in and week out ????? i mean we beat ac milan not so long ago again it was a one off cup game over a series of games if you were truly honest milan would probably beat us more times than we would beat them its just a pretty meaning set of results. we need someone who when we go for players of decent quality they will go i wanna play for this guy and i wanna play at celtic ! with owen coyle i can't see that happening...i may sound harsh but its true our success is the most important thing and lawwell needs to get someone better than coyle in my opinion.

  16. Bad appointment in my opinion if it happens. What's wrong with Levein? I think he'd do a decent job, especially with no money.

  17. thank * for edit lol :rolleyes::smoke:

  18. Aye, but the thing is he did it 4 times, it wasnt a one off. He dew 1-1 with Liverpool at home, beat them away, beat Chelski and Everton. He knows how to win in style and grind out results. Coyle is an untested manager, I agree, but technically so is Billic. He has never managed a club and there is a degree of risk with every new manager. Coyle is realisticly a very good choice, we could do worse. Billic's agent is (imo) using us as a stepping stone. He says he may be interested in us to alert other clubs to his availbility. Man City or Chelski perhaps.

  19. Sky sports breaking news Owen Coyle interested in joining celtic... sounds like a done deal
