You said politics, which covers a lot.

The GB are strongly against Nike, and many large companies because they exploit young children in worse off countries for cheap cheap labour and sell the tops on for £40 a pop etc. Hense why a lot of the original members of the GB refuse to wear anything produced by Nike.

I feel it's misguided to accuse the Green Brigade of bringing politics into Celtic Park.

The truth is actually the opposite. On the two main occasions I can recall on which they seemed to take a stance - the poppy issue, and the appointment of John Reid - they were essentially protesting against politics being brought into things.

The poppy - a political symbol, whether you support or oppose it - was foisted on the SPL players as an order, not as a voluntary gesture. The Green Brigade's objection was an objection to this political symbol being brought into the domain of football, and specifically Celtic Park.

Likewise, John Reid was not made Chairman on the basis of his being a right good Celtic man: he was appointed on the basis of the contacts and influence he had built up during his political career, a career which also included acts of warfare which under international law were borderline illegal.

Whatever our opinion on either of these issues, for or against, I think it's important to recognise that the politics were introduced at an earlier stage - by the SPL on one hand, and by Dermot Desmond on the other.

The Green Brigade (with whom I've got no connection btw) were in both cases - as far as I can see - objecting to politics being brought into Celtic Park.

I tend never to read into these debates as I'm not interested in anything bar the football. If it's a bunch of fans who create a good atmosphere and stay clear of bringing the club down then I'm all for it.

John Reids protest was because of a desicion he made when he was in power, not necessarily because he was an MP.

How is John Reid imposing his politics at CP?

For me, he isn't, not even in the slightest. The GB just love a good protest :icon_mrgreen:

good to see them trying to create an atmosphere at CP but they can be a bit of a loose cannon as they are very political , Personally I just want to watch a good game in a noisy atmosphere and dont really give a toss about all the politics

    Poppygate?

Giving Ministry of Defence personnel (i.e. British Soldiers) discounts in Celtic stores?

He was a high profile British MP ffs of course he's going to impose his politics. If David Murray took over Celtic would you expect him to leave his past behind and be totally different?

Their poppy protest had nothing to do with John reid and it was a disgrace. You talk about our club values and how they represent them yet you forget our history. Many of our fans and even our own players died fighting in the trenches and in wars after that and a minute of silence held in memory of them was interupted by a bunch of sectarian morons. I have always liked the Green Brigade because they are exactly what we need at CP, but stop acting like their politics represent the whole club and the Celtic community in general.

The Poppy Protest was a bit stupid, I have to say...

Even if the Poppy Protest had nothing to do with Reid, I really think that Reid shouldn't be the Celtic chairman... Its a bit of a disgrace to have a war criminal representing this club.

Otherwise, well.. On the Rebel Songs... Songs like Boys of the Old Brigade simply are not sectarian songs, anyone who thinks they are is a fool. It's a song honouring the young men who died fighting for a Free and United Ireland during the War for Independence, both Catholic and Protestant. Ireland is a country that this club and many, many of its fans have links with, so I honestly don't see the problem.
