Think this young lad will be a good yin, remember him late last season strolling out of defense like a seasoned pro.

When was that? I must've missed it. :smiley-laughing002:

When you consider that Denayer's the same age, O'Connell really is nothing to get excited about. He'll be lucky to be playing for St Mirren in a few years.

I think you're the only one so far. Hope he comes good, but he tries to get rid of the ball too quickly and often attempts a pass that's too adventurous for a CB. Not much pace to him either.

    I wasn't having a go at you. :smiley-laughing002:

I'd love for him to make it here but I just don't see it happening.

I'm sure he would be happy with that.

Can someone actually explain why they think he'll fail? There's just loads of people shouting about how * he is without offering any actual reason.

Personally, I don't see what he's done wrong so far. Far, far too early to write a player off. Especially when the only real negative contribution he's made was an own goal that was entirely Zaluska's fault.

I wouldn't respond to someone who's whole user-spectrum is designed around being racist. Obviously a low life-form.

Anyway, wouldn't write this fella off just yet.

Go easy on the guy ffs. Haven't seen enough of him in the first team to form an opinion yet. Give him a chance!

He looks a bit nervous at times but he has done okay, it takes time for defenders to get a level of maturity about their game as one mistake can be very costly.

Hopefully he can keep pushing on.

Some of us seem to be able to read how a player looks from a stream or from the stands
We have had Ambrose looking scared and O'Connell looking a bit nervous at times . I think he fits in well in a Celtic defence which is not protected maybe, as well as it should due to Deila's playing formations .
I think it is far too premature to comment on his long term future as Celtic have had many excellent 18 year olds in the past that didn't go on to become regular top class footballers at 22/24 year olds . Only time will tell with O'Connell

That's because we have eyes, and can tell if he hesitates when taking a touch or he has to think twice before making a tackle or switches off when left exposed.

Players aren't robots, some get nervous some get scared some get angry its upto the manager to work on these mental problems as well as the physical attributes like fitness.

In January we should loan in another young defender from somewhere as cover and send him on loan to an SPL team like Motherwell or Kilmarnock.

Where is this switch that Eoghan switches off when he is exposed . So you think O'Connell is a robot with a switch .
Personnally I cannot read his mind , so I don't know whether he thinks once , twice or three times before he makes a tackle but I do know he has made some cracking tackles .
Loaning him out may be a strange option to my mind , we must have loaned out nearly 100 players over the past 10 years and only Cal McGregor has shown any ability .

That's unnecessarily risky, as with Denayer he may not be up to scratch.
