Happy birthday, Fergus! One of the most important figures in the entire history of the club.

And next week marks the 30th Anniversary of 'The Rebels Have Won!'

Watch the last 20 secs or so of this and tell me the guy doesn’t deserve a statue. Celtic were on its knees when Fergus saved the club. Why wait until Fergus is dead, honour him now. Lawell, Desmond…wake up ffs.

We can't thank him enough. Having had the huns dominate for most of my teens, he not only saved the club, but brought back belief that we were on the up.

It's easy to take for granted what we have won since, especially those who weren't there for the 90's. Name the North Stand after him, as that was the first one he built.

Easily in the top 5 of the most influential people to have been involved with our club.

He’s made it quite clear that he doesn’t want a statue, a stand named after him or Celtic Park named after him. He wants to quietly watch the club he loves dominate off the back of his vision.

We cannot ignore what this man has done for us. Ever.

One of the things people tend to forget is when fergus came in he said that he would be here for 5yrs and that his plans for the club would take that long, but even after the share issue his investment into the club was worth 80 odd million he wouldn’t sell and continued until his 5yr plan was done and he eventually walked away with half the profit he could have made if he had sold up earlier..
Think his overall investment was 10m and he sold his 51% stake for 40m.
Testement to the character of the man.

The level of financial discipline the guy had was incredible, especially under so much pressure from media and our own fans.

He saw the opportunity that the old board refused to see, came to power with a spending plan that he believed was enough to get Celtic back on track, and then point blank refused to try and keep up with the wreckless levels of spending going on over the road. So many Celtic fans hated him for it, but he was ultimately proved correct.

It's very rare in top level football to see that ability to balance a need to spend with a necessity to stop spending when required.

I've long advocated that the North Stand should be renamed the McCann Stand, and think it would be fitting in recognition of the man, everything he did during his tenure, and everything that the club has gone on to achieve since then, that have been a direct result of his efforts.

Right, and for *'s sake hurry up and do it. He's not a young man and it would be amazing if he could see it.

McCann wouldn't want a stand named after him, or any other adulation of the sort. Imo

Well, with apologies to Kevin Bridges, he's not having a stand named after him; he's getting a stand named after him.

Everything wasn't smooth sailing under McCann but saving the club was a deed worthy of a statue.

I bought into his vision.Fergus McCann was the main reason I bought my first season ticket when the new stadium opened and Ive had one ever since.I would totally endorse some sort of recognition of the 'bunnet':ynwacelti
