Transfermarkt saying that over his whole career, 311 appearances, 29 goals, 82 assists. So essentially he contributes to a goal 1 in every 3 appearances.

And hasn't really played in a properly dominant side. Apart from the season they won promotion.

We don't always need to sign players with resell value. Especially on a pre contract.

When did 28 become too old * sake. Not interested in a players age tbh, only what they can bring in the time they play for us, Lubo for example. It's not all about flooding the squad with young guys with potential sell on value.

If this guy can offer us something special then I'm all for it.

Ferhat has played 136 games since 18/19 scoring 19 and 43 assists.

Rogic has played 149 games over the same time period and scored and assisted 13 and 24 as a comparison.

James Forrest has played 144 games scoring, 36 and assisted 46.

Things to consider when comparing the above this is across all competitions for the three players so playing opportunities for Forrest and Rogic have been more than Ferhat, although total number of games are close.

The majority of games Rogic and Forrest have played have been against opposition inferior to Celtic so we have had the majority of possession and done most of the attacking, the opposite is true for two season Ferhat played in Ligue 1 where he played for one of the worst teams in the league.

The two full seasons in Ligue 2, one at Le Harve and one at Nimes are probably more like for like in terms of level to the premiership but even then there is more parity between his clubs and the opposition than Celtic vs the rest of our domestic leagues except them.

There’s no doubt Forrest’s goal scoring is significantly better than Ferhat’s but when you consider Ferhat appears to have been easily the most technically gifted player in his team and has sharp movement etc there will likely be a case of he could do more in a more attacking, better team as another poster suggested.

I may be wrong but I believe if you put Ferhat in a team with the likes of Rogic, Kyogo, Maeda or Jota, McGregor and Hatate or Turnbull, he will score more frequently and also provide high quality opportunities for the others. He also takes a decent corner which would be nice for us.

If players are 28 and are free, it's fine. Not every player is going to have a resell value and that's OK.

We don’t really want them all to, either.

Signing a young player with the aim of selling him in 2/3 years is fine, but if you flood the squad with them you’re going to have accept a constant cycle of rebuilding every few years. Some of those rebuilds would be ugly, and very much dependent on us constantly being able to identify talent, and convince it to join.

Ideally you’ve got a core of high quality players who are here for the long run - probably slightly older and experienced enough to appreciate what they’ve got here. Supplement that with talented young players who will probably want to move at some stage.

I agree. That's why I said 'not every player'.

Agree with you both here if you look at Ajax, Salzburg etc they often have 3 or 4 players who are older unlikely to move on for continuity.

I do agree though I wouldn’t be rushing to offer a 4 year deal here, probably 2 1/2, 3 at most.

When you consider our team at the moment, if we sign CCV, Juranovic, Hatate, Maeda, Kyogo, if we sign Jota, Abada, Turnbull all probably see themselves as maybe being here a couple of seasons then moving on.

28 isn’t too old. But it’s not the age I want to be signing a guy with an attitude problem who’s been at lower level in the majority of his career.

    * need to look at the bigger picture and not just YouTube videos or his first name.

I'm not arsed about him potentially wanting to force a move.

Only bothered about what he'd bring to us. To me I think this could be a coup.

On a free transfer I'd have zero complaints. Even for a cut price deal to get him in this month, you're talking less than £1m no doubt.

Not every player we sign has to have potential to be developed and sold for big money.

Aye its a core part of our business model now and it works but as much as Id love us to sign nothing but under 24s like I do on Football Manager :56:we will always need a few more experienced players in the squad.

We just gave a 52 year old James McCarthy a 9 year contract, so not a big deal if we were to get this 28 year old in for a year and a half.

Purely based off of the season he had in Ligue 1 for a pretty poor side.

Stats were highly impressive. I think he would flourish in a more attack minded side.
