I lost a very dear Friend on Sunday, a horrible shock. My Dear Friend loved the Natural World to the Hilt and more. One of the last times I spoke to her about Wildlife I told her I had seen my first Blackcap of the year and early this morning in my garden there was indeed a singing Blackcap:49:

We had planned one day to go to the Highlands together, that will never happen now but I am up there for 9 nights as of Monday and I will take all the lovely memories of our friendship with me up there. I like countless others would not know what to do in life without my love for the Natural World just like my Dear late friend.

A few from a cold, sleety Saturday morning at Colgagh, there wasn't much around, but the birdlife that i saw was pretty active, I was delighted to see the Great Crested Grebe pair showing their moves, and this time a wee bit closer to get a half decent shot.

The late winter snap is catching a lot of birds out this year. Nesting is going to be delayed I think.

I had my first singing Chiffchaff of the year yesterday morning on my local patch and 22 Meadow Pipit passed through getting ready to return to the Moors, also 2 Skylark passed by so Spring is trying with plenty of singing Songbirds.

My and Ruby Roo are off back to the Highlands tomorrow for 9 nights do I should be reporting some cool stuff in here.

Used to be you could see and hear nesting skylarks in the suburban open wild spaces and outskirts of the Glasgow area years ago. Now they have all been driven out to the famlands, moors and coastal areas, decimated by the relentless encroachment of the building and property developers. I haven't seen or heard a skylark in ages.

A few from Sunday morning during a very brief respite from the relentless feckin rain, there were a few birds around but some were just too far away for a decent shot, i saw a few Swift, Swallow, Marten type birds feeding on the insects which were out in force, maybe Pete or John could have a guess at the species, i couldn't get a pic as they were moving too fast for me.
