    Young birds sometimes fall out of all types of nest. Also sometimes the adults will remove a dead Chick to stop the decaying smell attracting Predators.
    Coal * usually fly the nest after around 3 weeks from hatching, they breed April to June often having 2 Broods. If the rest of the young fly from the nest that will be a big success. Quite often not all the Chicks survive, it is all part of nature.
    I always think if more than half survive that is good but of course we all want them all to survive. But often it depends on how much food is available and what chicks get it and of course illness or born late so they cannot compete for food with bigger siblings.
    But the sheer fact you have a Coal * Nest in a Bird Box in your Garden is something to be proud of:50:

    Thanks so much for getting back to me M8. It's the first time we have ever had birds nesting in our garden and it's been so interesting watching nature right on our doorstep (well, on our fence) :50:
