First pic of the Cormorant showing a piece of fishing line hanging, i think the hook is in the wing.

I tend not to carry a tripod with me Jeannie, i find it a bit too cumbersome lugging one when i go for a walk, sometimes if i'm going to stay put in the one spot i'll use a tripod or a monopod, i really should use one more often as i find my hands are getting more shakier as time goes on.

I must be terrible as I can never get a bird in flight. Perhaps it's just a technique that I have to develop. I have a tripod but like you I'm reluctant to carry it around.

Try and watch for biggish birds flying towards you from a distance Jeannie, you'll have more time to get it in focus, just keep snapping away at it, some of your pics are bound to come out decent as it passes you.:50:
p.s. have your camera on sports mode for a fast shutter speed.:50:

You're particularly good at the flying shots Johnie that cormorant with the fishing line (sadly) is a beautiful picture flying low over the water and the reflection

@Idioteque That's a nice clean reef tank there, I bought a 6 x 2 x 2 one many years ago for the same reason however when i discovered the price of the living rock there was just no way I could aford it never mind anemonies or the fish themselves.
What kind of filtration system are you using ? do you have a plenum below the sand ? and did I see a shrimp in the background there ? beautiful corals, what's the one with the yellow spots on it that's a beauty ?
Nice little tank indeed and a very nice ecosystem. :50:

hi mate, I’m set up with dry rock because I didn’t want any unwanted hitchhikers. I used live sand to kick start the cycle. I have a 3 chamber filtration in the back of tank. Sponge / floss filter in fist chamber/ second chamber is a skimmer to get rid of any trace metals / proteins with a small kelp refugium in the second chamber. 3rd chamber is the pump. The rock in the tank is the main filter now that it’s mature. I use a wave maker to increase flow in the tank to prevent any detritus build up and allow the oxygen exchange. The shrimp is a cleaner shrimp. It cleans the fish and generally eats anything that falls to bottom of the tank. The shrimp along with hermit crabs and snails are all part of my clean up crew and are essential in any marine tank to keep nitrites / nitrates / ammonia to a minimum. Once a week I do 25% water change. Dose calcium / phosphates / magnesium when required. The corals are heavy consumers of calcium especially.

The corals with the long arms and bright tips are called torch corals from the euphylia family

Awesome, yeah I was planning to go with the fuji living rock but because the tank was so big the price of the rock was astronomical was gonna have a 3 section smaller tank underneath for direct water drop from the main tank into it for the secondary filtration then powerful pump back up for the water flow and feed. all great ideas of course but unfortunately it never happened, perhaps one day though. Good luck with the tank, I do love clownfish and thier anemonies that's a lil ecosystem just with them alone.

That really is an interesting read for someone who knows nothing about these things. It certainly is a labour of love as well as a hobby :50:
