Well this morning on a fine walk with Jasmine Boxer i saw nothing amazing, but did see solid signs that Spring is not that far away, singing Goldcrests, singing Mistle Thrush and Song Thrush, singing Greenfinch, pair of courting Raven,a pair of Jays, mewing Buzzards,a pair of Bullfinch and the usual hunting local male Kestrel.

This morning into early afternoon a did the grand slam of the local Raptors Kestrel,Sparrowhawk,Buzzard and Peregrine.
I also saw a record count of 6 Hawfinch on my local patch, funny when i located a pair i said to my nephew "Funny i have only ever seen 2 up here, never more" Then a moment later 3 flew together, moment later 6 flew together!!!
I also heard only a Green Woodpecker calling.Me and Jasmine Boxer got back home just in time for the weather is * now,its windy and * it down!

This guy hangs about the garden of our house up in far NW...

Photographed him on the prowl last time I was home (home-home).

Robs the fat balls off the trees... Nothing puts him off once on 'the scent'.

Check out the claws on it! (Nearest neighbour wondering where their chickens are going?)

Don't really go looking for it. The pine marten comes to us. Plenty buzzards and eagles about. Can see dolphins from shore very occasionally. Don't really like seeing deer in the garden, they usually leave ticks behind!

This morning at my local patch at least 9 Hawfinch present with cracking views of a singing male.I will let one of the Big Shot local birders know now, these are very scarce breeding birds and their favourite spot is where the minimum of disturbance will be created,as i am not to keen on Twitchers. But this important data should be out there.
Funny enough up in Speyside in the Highlands someone has found a similar sized population in Granton On Spey,i am up in Speyside next month for a classic 9 nights and would love to see them there, never seen them in the Highlands.Have seen them at Scone Palace in Perth though.Infact i have the Triple crown on this species as i have seen them in Scotland,England and Wales.
Talking of going back up to the Highlands i hope to see Green Woodpecker and Waxwing in the Highlands, seen plenty here in North Wales but are bogey birds in the Highlands. And yes there was once again a calling Green Woodpecker on my local patch,it also did the contact call as well.

    Not a bird expert..

This one was in a tree nearby. Think it's a buzzard just launching, but couldn't get its heid in shot.

Pair of red kites circling over garden right now!
