I had a walk around Balisodare falls on Monday and I met the caretaker of the fishing club, he told me the falls have never been as dry since the mid 80s,he said the Salmon are usually running at this time but there's a load of them coming in with a disease that blinds them and they get parasites under their scales, the poor auld fish are dying in the pools as without much movement in the water the oxygen levels are really low.

I’ve seen an unusual amount of mature fish floating on the rivers near me lately too. Could be a similar demise

Just saw something interesting. Mr and Mrs Bullfinch have voracious appetites. They are never out of the feeding tray, there almost constantly but this evening they seemed to defer to a young goldfinch chick. When he arrived, they moved out of the tray on to the frame of the feeder and waited until he had gone. They seemed very respectful of the youngster, although a different bird. Earlier in the day, Mr and Mrs were on the edge of the birdbath having a wee drink and on two occasions, Mr B approached Mrs B and gave her a gentle peck on the beak. I'd never seen that behaviour before.
