Just back from the Black Forrest in Germany. My wife and I had a great time. The bird life was superb. I saw lots of
buzzards, Ravens, Hooded Crows, and even saw a Marsh Harrier and a Red Kite, but the birding highlight was seeing a
Yellow Wagtail. Never seen one before. Stunning sighting. On the way home, I also saw a White Stork. Never seen one in the wild. Not only a great holiday but some excellent birding as well.

I saw an Owl taking off from the road with some prey in its beak the other morning ( still dark ) . It gave me a bit of a start , it was some sight ! I saw a Jay fly out of a hedgerow during my afternoon journey home from work . This was only my 3rd sighting of a Jay , a colourful bird to say the least .

In all my days birdwatching, I've never seen a Jaw. It's top of my wishlist.
Doing my garden yesterday, whilst mowing the grass, I noticed I was being watched by a Robin.
It just went about it's business looking for worms as I finished the gardening. I went into the
kitchen and cut up an apple to see if it wanted a piece. It took one piece, and left the rest.
It made gardening a lot more enjoyable.

They are clearly very uncommon in central Scotland though. Ive only ever seen them on a golf course in Yorkshire.

Seen quite a few flocks of geese overhead in the last week. No idea what type, but presumably on their way south from Iceland/Greenland etc. I love hearing them approach, chatting away to each other.

Jays are more common than you think in the Central Belt on a local basis, its a case of finding their strongholds, the Geese are Pink Footed Geese, and what a lovely sound that is good pal!

Seen thousands of pink-footed geese, I think, this morning, they always fly directly over my work this time of year.

    Amazing stuff

This peak time for migrating Pink Footed Geese, they fly in big formation and have a loud crackling call, frequently seen and heard early morning and early dusk as they leave their feeding places on farmland to the safety of the wetlands, from the train going through the central belt, especially Perthshire you can see flocks of hundreds feeding in fields as you go past.

Yeah there are loads that head to a reserve on Aberdeenshire. But that little bit closer to me, is the Montrose Basin, they counted around 95,000 there last week.

It reduced dramatically because some numpties let off fireworks and the population has just about halved they think.
