Well my battery died last night and I was kinda glad that it did. We were watching a load of Eider ducks huddle together with one or two bringing up the rear when a pile of those rat faced seagulls started in on them. Their babies were so close to the adults you could barely see them through the camera but those swines were having a go. It was a big stramash out on the water and I'm not sure if the gulls got any but the ducks were putting up quite a fight. I wanted to wade out there with a baseball bat :56:

That is Mother Nature for you Jeannie, can appear so brutal and in our eyes is.But it is well balanced,it is people of course that tip the balance. The Gulls themselves may well have hungry chicks that need all the energy they can get.But despite that hope all the wee ducklings got away. When you got home did you find your Baseball Bat in the garage?:56:

I had a look back at my photos from last night and I got some amazing pictures of the Eider ducks surrounding the female and her chicks. They circled her with such military precision that it was a sight to behold.

I was looking out my window yesterday watching some Starlings and their chicks, when all of a sudden a Carrion Crow flew down and grabbed one of the chicks. As it started to pluck the chick, I could see the chick was still alive, and flapping it's wings to try to get away, but the Crow pecked it to death with it's beak. Another Crow landed next to the fisrt Crow, and watched as it try to eat the young Starling as quick as possible.
Then about 40 Starlings started to dive bomb the Crow, and the 2nd Crow was doing all it could to protect the 1st crow. I've never seen a Carrion Crow predate another bird before. It was cruel but great to watch. Nature can be cruel.

Fantastic pictures Jeannie, isn't it great the way the drakes gather round to protect their young.

It can seem really cruel at times John, but as cider mentioned earlier it's all part of the process, but isn't it a privilege that we get to witness natures ups and downs.

I attempted to go for a walk this morning but didn't get out of the van due to the wind and horizontal rain so I farted around the back for a bit, here's a few.
