    The heron is from yesterday's walk. Couldn't get any closer. The blue * and goldfinch are from the kitchen window again. Sorry still no crows, BFL. :55:

    @An Madadh Rua

    Herons always seem wary of people, but last spring, this one let me get about 10 feet. Never had I ever been so close to one before!

    Autumn is in full swing now,fresher mornings and evenings giving a special atmosphere.
    Jays are starting to become extra vocal as they warm up for their big Acorn collection. Bats are busy feeding up at dusk and night.
    Also conditions in the next week or so look really good for Autumn migrants.
    Still limited numbers of House Martins and Swallows are holding out.

    Saw some kind of bearpigman today, it was half man, half bear and half pig, by the looks of it, only seen it for a split second, it ran away into the woods.

    Johnie, peacocks indeed in second picture. First picture is red admiral. I don't know the first thing about butterflies but my friend used to be heavily involved in butterfly conservation. This picture is a painted lady... apparently. The greenway between Omeath and Carlingford was awash with butterflies at the weekend.
