I saw several small Frogs ( probably making their first trip away from water ) in the hills above Overton House . I also spotted a Heron and a Buzzard as I drove up the motorway near Chryston .

I was at Failford walking along the River Ayr today when I caught sight of a kingfisher, a first for me. I saw little of the bird apart from fleeting glances of blue and orange as it flew up and down a stretch of river but it then perched in a tree across the water from me. A gorgeous little thing and I had no camera. Made my day though.

Stunning birds, I used to see one at the bottom of the Rotten Calder near the Newton bridge, sitting by the river with dumped microwaves and mattresses and this little stunning bolt of electric blue would fly past at regular intervals.

Yes but so rewarding. When you did see them if possible see where they land because they frequently have a favourite perch.
I took my nephew to a cool location in Snowdonia earlier this year and got him his first Kingfisher,he was very pleased.

That's good to know because I did see it perched for maybe a minute. I'll be back with my camera and see if it returns.

Oh the other day while walking my local patch I heard loads of rustling and little squeaks in the undergrowth in the local woods next to one of the main paths. I got loads of ultra brief views of foraging Wood Mice. I got 2 brief good views of 2 of them passing over a log, cute little things.
Also I saw one of the local Green Woodpeckers and one of the local Kestrels.
Oh and yesterday I heard only and briefly the Weee Weee Weee Weee call of a Whimbrel flying over my local patch.

This morning I saw one of the local * Green Woodpeckers with a Juv. Great to know these lovely birds are breeding half a mile away from my house as the crow flies.
Also I got a real close up of a handsome European Hornet.

Excellent, great to see a hedgehog! I used to see and hear them in and around the garden two or three times a week a few years ago. Now, sadly, I see a hedgehog about once a year if I'm lucky. It's also years since I saw a House Sparrow in the garden, which would have seemed ridiculous not too long ago. Saw one in the supermarket car park yesterday, and I'd forgotten, or hadn't realised when they were so common, how smart the male House Sparrow is!

My daughter went for a walk to Drumpellier Park yesterday. She phoned me up about 7 o'clock. She was all excited. I couldn't get a word out of her. When she finally calmed down, she told me a Goshawk had flew right by her and caught a Rat right next to her. She says it was one of her Birding highlights of her life. She also saw a stunning Snipe. I WASN'T jealous of her at all.

I sometimes see a kingfisher on the Lagan towpath. You never get used to it, it's just as thrilling now as the first time I saw one as a student (many years ago).
