I would say Jock and MON were probably bigger than him

He would be an excellent appointment and its equal to the MON in potential. Hope we can secure Steve Clarke as assistant too.

Anyone else think this has been the plan all along? Throw in a cheap option to plug the gap for a few years until the currant buns rear their ugly heads, then throw a bit of money about?

Rodgers would be a great appointment, and probably the biggest in recent history.

Always thought it was possible. We were never going to spend more than we needed while they were gone.

Since I'm a sad man who loves statistics, if you apply that win/draw percentage at Liverpool across this season then Liverpool would have finished 4th this year ahead of Man City, significantly better than the 8th place they managed under Jurgen Klopp.

    Definitely looks that way.

I can see why we would do that (not much competition, enough to get by in the league) however it means that they have been able to catch up to us somewhat. If we had kept going after they went down we'd be miles ahead by now, instead we have slid backwards and now need to hope that this is a success by pumping more money in all in the one go.

Not complaining though if we do, Rodgers with some funds behind him could see us into a very successful new era. Still, we shouldn't have to focus on them as much, if we had spent a bit more the past few years it probably would have led to more CL football increasing our resources even more.

Yeah, my thoughts were we rolled the dice on Deila, hoping for a hidden gem,but always having plan B (splash the cash) ready for when it didnt work out.

You can only really judge how big the appointment of BR would be when you look back at his term in office, at what he achieved. Potentially, his PR profile sits along side MON. However unlike MON, BR's teams have never won any major trophy - Leicester won League Cup twice before joining us. Even the great man, Jock Stein, lead Dunfermline to Scottish Cup triumph before joining us.

So would BR be the greatest appointment? No, because if winning trophies is a yardstick, he hasn't achieved anything. However would I be chuffed if we signed him? Definitely.

I believe Brendan and Martin are equally big signings. Hard to put one over the other. The difference is the mind set of the fans. When Martin arrived we were in adjective wilderness with no great signs of improvement. We rejoiced in getting O Neill. But none could have expected the dominance that would follow. With Brendan we know what can be achieved and how good he is. So Brendan arrives with much more expectation of putting us back on the right path. We have been so spoiled as Celts in this millennium that we demand success. And rightly so for a club our stature. We only expect from the board what us fans put in. And this is looking great. Hail hail.:50:

When MON signed we were not as dominant as we are today. The 6-2 game was the turning point in that era and the treble of that season was a fantastic achievement. We were also competing against the likes of juve with your nedveds and del pieros of the world. Anything close to that success level in the first few seasons would be something else. In terms of rep though, Rodgers is the bigger coup, seeing the gulf in money between the leagues now
