    1. Casillas: Has played in an incredible 4 world cups. Won the 2010 edition while captaining Spain, as well as earning the golden glove for the tournament. One of his saves at the 2002 world cup was incidentally voted one of the top 10 of all time (against South Korea) by FIFA.

    2. Jose Nasazzi: The first ever captain to win the world cup. An incredible feat in itself, before you begin to discuss his ability. Despite none of us being alive to see him, historians and hipsters alike regard him as one of Uruguay's and South American football's finest ever defenders. Capable of playing CB and RB, he slots in on the right side here for me.

    4. Daniel Passarella: Captained Argentina to a win on home soil in 1978, the stuff dreams are made of. A hardy, world class defender, with an eye for goal (140 to be precise) he is an Argentine legend.

    5. Gateano Scirea: Won the competition with Italy in 1982. Represented his nation in 3 world cups. Another world class addition to the backline, and a player who incidentally is one of only 5 to have won every international trophy recognised by UEFA and FIFA.

    3. Ruud Krol: Dutch footballing legend. Part of the famous Dutch side of the 70's, who so cruelly lost out in 2 finals. World class defender who could play pretty much anywhere across the back and even into midfield. Made the 1978 all star team and scored a 25 yard tonker against Argentina in 74'.

    Midfield:

    6. Paul Breitner: A true maverick. He was a star throughout the 1974 tournament, winning it with Germany as well as getting into the all star team. A player equally at home at left back, but in midfield is where he would play for me. Would also go on to gain a runners up medal in Spain 82.

    8. Falcao: One of the best midfielders in the world in the late 70s early 80s. Part of the incredible Brazil side which is known as the greatest ever not to have won anything in Spain 82. Deep lying playmaker with that typical Brazilian touch, an excellent addition to the midfield to support his pal further up..

    7. Socrates: Refereed to by the BBC as the; "symbol of cool for a whole generation of football supporters", the talented number 10 is considered as one of the greatest to ever play the game, and was part of that insane Brazil side with Rivellino and Zico. Played at 2 world cups, captaining the team at Spain 82. Often referred to as the 'brains' of that Brazilian side.

    Attack:

    11. Ronaldinho: A player everyone here has seen in the flesh. One of the best of our generation and ever, to be honest. Capable of doing anything with a football. Played at 2 world cups, winning the 2002 edition, being one of the standout performers in the process. World class.

    10. Pele: Need I say anymore. Winner of 3 world cups. 3. In many people's eyes the greatest the world has ever seen. Prolific goalscorer with the technical ability to match. Together with Ronaldinho this would be a frightening prospect.

    9. Grzegorz Lato: One name not often mentioned, but a world cup legend. The greatest Polish footballer ever and a man who has the accolade of having performed well in 3 world cups, something very rare indeed. Top scorer in 74 with 7 goals as Poland finished 3rd. 5th in 78 and 3rd again in 82. In 20 world cup games he scored 10, assisting 7, and still holds the record for number of world cup goals by a wide player. Phenomenal.

Overall, a team full of tournament legends. Leaders, defensive know how, flair, technique, pace and goals, spread across the entire history of the tournament, from 1930 right through to the present day.

    A perfectly balanced team

Defence has outstanding quality who have all been voted for team of the tournament and all are elite.

The midfield...Winners , Pirlo, Neeskens and Zico .Power, goals, creativity

The attack... Stoichkov Eusebio and Garrincha supported by Zico .....Ooooh where's my * rag.

Nobody out of position,no players picked because they are a name, all have either won world cups, or been in Team of the Tournament ,or both.

Sepp Maier - West Germany's first choice goalkeeper for 3 tournaments. Won the 1974 edition.

Carlos Alberto - Captained the Brazil team during their 1970 triumph. Scored one of the greatest goals in WC history in the final.

Oscar Ruggeri - Legendary defender who won the 1986 World Cup.

Klaus Augenthaler - Key defender in the 1990 World Cup winning side.

Paolo Maldini - Has played more World Cup minutes than any other player. Voted into the World Cup All-Star Team in 1990 and 1994.

Luis Monti - Only player to compete in two WC finals with two different nations (Argentina and Italy). He won with the latter.

Michael Ballack - Twice voted into the World Cup All-Star Team (2002 and 2006).

    Jean Tigana
    - Voted into the 1986 World Cup-All Star Team.

Maradona - Played in 4 World Cups, winning in 1986. He was the captain during the triumph and won Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. His second against England was voted 'Goal of the Century' by FIFA.com voters. His first was even better, though...

Mario Kempes - Essentially dragged Argentina to World Cup glory in 1978. Became only the third player to win Golden Ball, Golden Boot and the tournament itself, in WC history.

Gabriel Batistuta - Participated in 3 World Cups and scored 10 goals, making him Argentina's leading goalscorer in the WC. To this day, he remains the only player to score a hat-trick in more than one edition of the WC.
