I thought we needed a bit of a distraction from the teams ongoing probs, so posted this to see if others think this is a good idea

So say if we have a reset with the management and chief executive leaving how about we do things differently ?

European football is miles ahead of Scottish football why don't we just build a team that can regularly give teams on the continent a solid game ?
The way i see it is if we can compete well and get results regularly in Europe, becoming a consistent team in them competitions, that would also mean we would trash everyone in Scotland, no ? or is it too simplistic ?

No, it’s not too simplistic at all. You’re bang on.

We should be doing much better. The problem has been Lawwell. He’s consistently hired poor managers because he wants total control. He’s kept the club at his level.

It’s been ingrained into the minds of the Celtic support that we have to endure an equal amount of success and mediocrity.

We had Rodgers for a while, so now we must endure Lennon. It sounds crazy but people have a weird acceptance that some sort of balance needs to be struck. Like the way you get Labour for 15 years, then Tory for 15 years. Like buying a new car then working for 5 years to pay back the loan.

There’s also the myth that no one wants to come here, again perpetrated by Lawwell. It’s simply not true. The main reason anyone wouldn’t come here is Lawwell himself.

At the height of our power, with £10m banked from ‘selling’ Rodgers and his team, Lawwell didn’t even consider anyone else, he rehired an unemployed and desperate Neil Lennon.

The money we have, we should have first clas infrastructure and first class player and coaching scouting networks, like the other clubs at our level do. Instead we have Lawwell hiring poor managers he can control to protect his own position. We’re all complicit for ignoring it so long.

All if buts and maybes but if Lenny’s first team was together 1 more season, I.e. Wanyama, Van Dijk, Hooper, Forster Izaguirre before injury all in the same team, they could’ve made a good fist in EL level and definitely got to the last 16 again. And also, 2018/19 had Rodgers been given the money he wanted and got the players we were linked with that summer like McGinn, Denayer, Castagne, we’d probably have qualified for the CL group stages that year, we’d have been in a group with Ajax, Benfica and Bayern. Who knows.

Edit: In both scenarios, it has been Mr. Lawwell and his withholding of funds that has impeded our progress in Europe and subsequently and conveniently our revenue which he cares so much about.

It’s actually sickening the money we generate and the positions we have been in that we didn’t capitalise and build a robust infrastructure to maintain a certain level of competitiveness in Europe.

Someone posted up the positions held at clubs of similar stature and size to us and it was actually frightening. Whoever that was please bang that in here because it quite relevant to the topic.

There are a number of key positions where we should have staff and we don’t. If we did, and they were experts, it would overwhelmingly put pressure on Lawwells position as he tries to control the goings on.

One or two voices he can quell, 8-10 footballing experts would turn him * upside down.

Plus, we should have a Director of Football to challenge Lawwell and support the playing side of things. I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but needs must.

I’m aware we have Nick Hammond but he’s just a PL puppet
