In June last year, Motherwell starlet David Turnbull was on the cusp of becoming Celtic’s first signing of the 2019 summer transfer window. Instead, he spent a year on the side-lines at Fir Park recovering from an undiscovered, and therefore undiagnosed, knee injury.

Despite his age, Turnbull has shown a maturity and determination beyond his years in the wake of his injury, and while always confident in his ability, he knew exactly how much work, perseverance and dedication to his craft was required to maintain a club like Celtic’s interest over such a prolonged period of time.

He added: “I was confident a chance like this could come around again, especially when I was back training. After all of the horrible stuff, I had it in my head that this was my aim and my goal and I knew nothing was going to change footballing ability-wise.

“Luckily, I’ve come back and it’s all worked out. I’m just delighted. I’ll never take anything for granted ever again, training, playing games, everything about football. I want to take in everything that happens, on and off the park, and just enjoy it as much as I can, and not look back.

“Now, I just want to get myself as much game time as I can. I want to give as much as I can for the team, and I want to help them push for silverware in this important season. I’m looking to kick on and give more competition to the squad.

“I’d take any position but I’d probably say a number eight or number 10 box-to-box position. I like to do it all. I believe in my ability. I feel like I can come here and make an impact. I always believed in my ability. After the injury, not much changed. It was always in my head that I would come back and be the same player. I just took it day by day.”

The reward for Turnbull’s unwavering determination is the chance to play his part in high-pressure games week-to-week at Celtic, during what is a particularly important season for the club and its supporters all over the globe. The midfielder said he savours the opportunity to play in domestic and European competition, and described the chance to play in front of a full-house at Celtic Park as a dream, whenever it’s safe to do so.

“There are some massive games ahead, and that’s the same every year at Celtic,” Turnbull continued. “There are always huge games coming up, we’ve got the Scottish Cup semi-final from last season still to play, this season’s domestic tournaments, European qualifiers, and it’s obviously and important season in terms of the league at Celtic this year as well. These are the occasions I’ve been looking forward to and I’m looking forward to getting involved in.

David Turnbull has admitted he had confidence a move to Celtic would come around again but is determined to use his injury * as a positive and soak up every minute of life at a top team.

The midfielder looked all set to sign for Neil Lennon 's men last summer when an eleventh hour hitch in his medical collapsed the deal.

Turnbull was forced into surgery to correct a knee problem that nobody was even aware of and spent the best part of last season recovering.

And now he's completed his move to the champions, he intends to use the ups and downs of the last 12 months to stay grounded.

He said: “I was confident a chance like this could come around again, especially when I was back training.

At Celtic, Turnbull will face big matches week in week out in the title race as well as European ties and cup games.

Rather than be fazed by the challenge, it's part of the reason the midfielder was so desperate to pitch up in Paradise.

He said: “There are some massive games ahead, and that’s the same every year at Celtic.

    Games on there

It's been *, havent played well or been * just a scrappy struggling game. Turnbull played attacking midfield but never seen a lot of the ball.

2 Scotland wingers have been pish, Middleton on the left and the number 7 on the right, Middleton can run down the wing but canny beat a man or cross a ball and the * on the right looks * poor, awkward on the ball and constantly taking bad touches and just out his depth trying to dribble. Middleton has at least put umpteen crosses into the stands, right winger is just constantly stumbling about trying to control it that theres nothing happening on that side.

Scotland striker looked not bad, few nice touches when holding it up but never really been in the game much

Aye it was terrible so I switched off after about half hour..

Lot of direct ball's so Turnbull wasn't that involved from what I saw..

Edit: Didn't realise it was even still going clicked the link above and Campbell scores..

Fairly impressed with his short outing, he will create a fair few this season if he gets the minutes

Hoping when Turnbull gets his chance he really takes it you can see from the cameo today he is a talented boy it will just be a case of trying to get into the team, in what is a packed area of the park.

I think this season will be bedding in , next year McGregor as a 6(quarterback style dictating play,) both Christie and Turnbull as 8/10's working box to box

I am not convinced Christie will still be here next season. Also in that midfield who does the ball winning and covering wing backs when they get caught out of position?

First to admit, that on the face of it I wasn't the most keen on this transfer.

Saw glimpses today of what he potentially offers us. Always looking to play forward is what we want to see.

Don't want to put toouch pressure on the guy as he's quite young but the signs are positive.

we either all defend as a team or we buy in a specialist, dont see a brown replacement in our first team squad unfortunately
