    * was not even the worst, when I just moved there we were playing fives and one black guy in our team done a massive grogger, and almost automatic I went "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, ya black *", then everycunt was looking at me then it clicked, that's a Scottish phrase and was pure racism in England, had to explain to him...

Hitting reply creates an automatic quote.

I couldn’t care less, you asked why it annoys people and I said it’s because it’s shitebag behaviour.

If you’re going to argue or have a go at someone then make sure they see it.

Not heard anyone use it in a long long time but I knew what he meant, literally black with dirt. Nothing to do with race.

    Nope.

Which means it’s used well over 30 years ago or it was used in the area he’s from.

I’ve never once heard someone say it never mind in the situation he was in.

For the record I’m not claiming he’s a racist, just doubting the truth in his story.

I wish it was a joke story, but it was true, I moved there to work at 18 for an internship, and had lived in East End of Glasgow my whole life till that point which at the time there was not many Black people, it was just one of those things we say casually growing up when someone does something bogging, it just slipped out, the guy was sound though, and I felt proper bad after it, I remember after trying to find out the origins of it and was supposedly an old saying about coal workers and the soot, there was a few other similar phrases like "black as 2 in the morning" etc.. Anyway, back to Ange!

Have I followed this right, are you talking about the BB phrase?

Dunno guys this would be news to me.

I only ever exclusively heard it used to reference black people. Not once was it ever said outside of that context. I’m fairly sure if anyone said it to a white person it would’ve received bemused looks.

I’m pretty sure it’s been a racist term up here for a long time now, at least for a lot of people.

I’m 32 from Glasgow and heard it all my life, somebody does a big massive grog infront of you it’d be a common thing to say. Getting used less than less, probably because of these types of situations.

For me and all the people in my area it was never a racist term, but nowadays a lot more people are aware of racial issues so I am sure it is not used nearly as much anymore. I am sure the exact same phrase has been used racially though, but not in the context I am referring.
