Tottenham have opened the door for Celtic to take Victor Wanyama back to Parkhead.

The English giants will consider loan offers for their out-of-favour midfielder if they can’t seal a permanent move before the close of the European transfer deadline at midnight

Club Brugge had agreed a £13 million deal for the Kenyan international but sources on both side of the channel have now said that deal now looks unlikely.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon previously worked with Wanyama and put him and Fraser Forster at the top of his wanted list in this window.

Celtic won’t spend the money to buy Wanyama on a permanent but are interested in a loan deal if they can agree wages.

The Scottish champions would struggle to cover half of his current Tottenham salary and would rely on the Premiership side taking a hit.

It’s still a long shot as Spurs would prefer a permanent transfer but the player has not ruled out a return to Parkhead.

Think this will come down to us waiting until the final hour for no sign of anyone coming in for him making Tottenham sweat for them to give up and let him go on loan

Surely to * if there’s a chance to get him on loan we’ll do it even if it’s paying his full wage for the season?

Any idea what wages he's on at spurs? I'd imagine it'll no be pennies. Probably around £70-80 grand p/w.

Brugge were meant to have offered him £65k pw, so you would think they would be at least matching his current wages.

Even then though. Pay him £65k a week for a year, that’s what? £3.5m? Give them a £3m loan fee, with the option to buy for £7m next season and you get your man. No reason why we can’t do that.
