I'm thinking of moving back to Ireland for university and I'm just wondering what it's like over there for grants and if it's worth looking into ..
I've heard a few bad things from all the lot that head over to Edinburgh for Uni but I'm still pretty keen on going home ..
I'm looking at DCU - Dublin or UCC - Cork
If anyone has anything worth knowing about the two it would be a massive help !
    Cheers bhoys !

I go to DCU, wouldn't know about grants and such since I don't get them but it's a cracking uni, really enjoying my time. You might want to ask a few questions on boards.ie in the DCU and UCC sections, they're fairly active.

If you do decide to go to DCU make sure to join the Celtic Society :50:

they tightened up in the last budget on the grants front but if your an independent mature student you should get a 3k grant from your local VEC and theres a couple of grants from the colleges themselves that you can apply for. id definately look into it all thoroughly if i were you.

Hard enough to get a grant, but go to NUIG. Galway's where the craic's at!

if your applying through the cao as a mature student it doesnt go on your leaving cert results at all, but you may need to have maintained minimum results in certain subjects for some courses. they basically award places on courses based on your personal statement in your application and each college/course you apply for you may have to go for an interview. the fee's this year are about 1500 euro but i think if your getting a grant you may not have to pay this fee. AFAIK the closing date for applications through the CAO was feb. 1st. but look into it, there may be other ways around this if you are applying from outside of Eire.

tbh if i was you i'd stay in scotland. I was looking at studying in Ireland but it was just going to be too expensive. At least in Scotland there are no up front fees and there is plenty of financial support from SAAS
