Starting in 2018/19 as a precursor to the EURO 2020 championships there will be the European Nations League starting.
It will be split into 4 leagues.
    League A - 12 teams
    League B - 12 teams
    League C - 14 teams
    League D - 16 teams

Each Division will be based around the National teams coefficient after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

If that is the case then our Group B according to current rankings would be

    Greece
    Czech Republic
    Romania
    Austria
    Croatia
    Cyprus
    Poland
    Israel
    Belarus
    Denmark
    Scotland
    Sweden

Ireland would be in Group D (2 divisions BELOW Scotland):icon_mrgreen: alongside Northern Ireland and Wales

It's a part of the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
The top 4 teams from Group A after the matches are played will get automatic qualification spots.
The other 20 places would be from the Euro 2020 qualifiers proper.
They will use this competition for each of the Euro qualifying campaigns.
There will be promotion and relegation from each division.
So Scotland could get promoted in the 1st season and be in with a slight chance of 2024 qualification from this competition.

In current rankings the Divisions would be as follows

    Portugal
    France
    Russia
    Ukraine
    Netherlands
    Belgium
    Switzerland
    Turkey

    Group B (12 teams)

    Greece
    Czech Republic
    Romania
    Austria
    Croatia
    Cyprus
    Poland
    Israel
    Belarus
    Denmark
    Scotland
    Sweden

    Group C (14 teams)

    Bulgaria
    Norway
    Serbia
    Slovenia
    Azerbaijan
    Slovakia
    Hungary
    Kazakhstan
    Moldova
    Georgia
    Finland
    Iceland
    Bosnia
    Liechtenstein

    Group D (16 teams)

    Macedonia
    Ireland
    Montenegro
    Albania
    Luxembourg
    Northern Ireland
    Lithuania
    Latvia
    Malta
    Estonia
    Faroes
    Wales

    Andorra
    San Marino
    Gibraltar

This will all change and it will be the rankings after the 2018 World Cup in Russia that will be used to decide the Groups.

It just means that there will be no need for pointless friendlies for the National team.

I guess it will make things more interesting than friendlies that seem worthless.

More competitive games against teams that are at a similar level. Seems like a good idea

    I know.
    Was surprised at that.
Expected them to be in at least Group C not in the bottom Group D

Scotland's games will be mostly tough ones in Group B although they should get promoted to Group A.

So I was wondering what you guys think of this, seems a bit has changed since it was initially announced and seedings have changed a bit. Ireland are no longer in League D, lol. I guess this all kicks off in 5 months or so...
