Ange Postecoglou is tracking French striker Thomas Henry as a replacement for exit-bound Odsonne Édouard

The new Celtic boss, who has seen new signings Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada hit the ground running, wants more firepower and is ready to pounce for the 26-year-old OH Leuven striker.

And he hasn’t been put off by the Belgian outfit rejecting Swansea City’s £6million bid for him three weeks ago.

The Parkhead outfit will bring in around £18m for Edouard if, as expected, he heads to England before the end of the transfer window.

And Postecoglou has been told that he can reinvest the cash in his squad - with the Aussie on record as saying he is hoping for another two recruits to come through the door by the end of the week.

CELTIC are on the brink of winning the chase for £7million French striker Thomas Henry.

The Hoops are hopeful of securing a big-money deal for the prolific hitman who plays in Belgium with OH Leuven.



Several clubs were tracking Henry, but Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is now in pole position to land the forward who scored 21 goals for his club in the Belgian top flight last season.




Henry, 26, is seen as the ideal replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

Leuven snapped up the 6ft 4in striker for just £400,000 from Belgian rivals Tubize-Braine only two years ago.


Over the past two seasons, Henry has scored 42 times and provided 12 assists in just 75 appearances, including a goal in the 1-1 league draw with Charleroi on Sunday.

That haul has led to his value rocketing, with Leuven reluctantly agreeing to cash in on their prize asset.

Henry’s arrival would soften the blow of losing Edouard, with Brighton now favourites to land his signature this month.


Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Roma are also interested in the Frenchman.

A deal for Henry, to provide competition for weekend hat-trick hero Kyogo Furuhashi, would represent a major bonus for Postecoglou





He has not yet been able to call on Leigh Griffiths due to a calf problem and has restricted Albian Ajeti to just two brief sub appearances in Europe.

15 in 27, then 21 in 31. 3 in 3 this season. Bring him home, although at that price he's a starter so * knows where he fits in

 

With the money that would need to sign him, you can only imagine Edouard's exit must be close.

 

Aye, he looks good in the air with great link up and hold up play. Also looks far more mobile than Ajeti. He’d definitely add an extra dimension to our attack.

Definitely looks impressive, just always wary of YouTube. Totally trust Ange’s judgement though.
