Aye fire sale , owner no longer interested in pumping cash into them , took the hump because he got his plans rejected for a hotel he wanted to build in the area was rumours he wants to sell and was in talks with oil rich family who have links to clubs in Italy. Just now Malaga are only buying cheap players or frees .

That remains to be seen if the truth be told.

Vice President Moayad Shatat issued a statement last week claiming that Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani, the owner, is still 100% committed to Málaga CF. We've heard this type of talk before on more than one occasion. I think a few of the players, especially those who were close with Manuel Pellegrini, have basically had enough of his promises and have decided to cut & run while they can.

Personally, I can't blame them.

Moving on Joaquín is a surprise, but rumour has it that the club got somewhere in the region of €3.5 million, which isn't bad business for a player who is almost 31.

Basically, Al Thani bought the club in 2010 under the impression that he would be able to extend the Puerto La Bajadilla in Marbella, which hasn't quite gone according to plan, and he also planned to build a luxury hotel in the area, which has also faced planning issues from the council.

Perhaps most importantly he also had plans to build a brand new stadium, which the club could be doing with to be honest. La Rosaleda is over 70 years old, and can only hold 30,000 fans. The problem is, as things stand the club pays the Málaga city council €700,000 per season for the use of the stadium, and it appears the council aren't quite willing to sign away that yearly donation to their budget so easily.

The Vice-President was quoted as saying the following;

“We can clarify that the club has not received the required institutional support, but the authorities have enjoyed the team’s success over the past year. This total lack of support also made it impossible to advance plans to construct the sports city that the club needs, again due to a lack of action and no administrative coordination."

With the council messing with his plans it looks as though he's biding his time to see if he can push through with them, but at the same time he's obviously downsizing the club.

He claims it's all being done in the interest of financial fair play regulations, but I'm not so sure myself.

Turbulent times ahead, but at least the club have frozen season ticket prices! One positive I guess! :icon_mrgreen:
