Nadal finally loses. Shame it was in a final. Pec injury was affecting him.

Nadal out for 4-6 weeks with a cracked rib.

Ash Barty, world No.1 and current Aussie Open and Wimbledon champion, has retired from the sport at 25. Big shock but she says she’s spent.

I see Russian and Belarussian tennis players have been banned from competing in Wimbledon this year. Disgraceful decision.

Aye it's horrendous and very unfair. They're not responsible for the actions of their government. Suspending tournaments in these countries is fine, banning the individuals just because they happen to be born there is a different story. If a player had come out and trumpeted support in favour of the Russian invasion, then fine, but none of them have.

If we banned athletes for the actions of their governments, especially governments leading invasions, we'd never see American athletes compete, or British.

Rublev wrote “No war, please” on a camera after he won a match and said we should promote peace. Medvedev said he was “all for peace” around the world and said it wasn’t easy to hear the news of the war. One of the female Russian players said she was against war and violence.

Belarusian, Azarenka put out a statement saying she was firmly against the invasion.

Sorry but I agree with the decision and I am a Massive Tennis Fan!! I would go further and ban every Russian Sports Person from all Sports while this Evil War goes on. The squeeze on Putin's Regime must come from every angle possible including everything Cultural as possible and as much in Business as possible.
As for say those poor 'Sporting individuals', what about the poor individuals who are Russians who live in Russia and who have been jailed for trying to do do the decent thing and directly challenge this Evil Regime and the same in Belarus. Let a lone the utter Horrors that go on in Ukraine.
Putin's Regime threatens World Peace, Putin's Regime must be ended as soon as possible and as many ways as possible should be used.

Absolute nonsense. Would you be up for banning Bitton and Abada being banned then? They surely must be held accountable for being born in Israel?

This, while its unfortunate for the Individuals concerned, well for those in opposition to putins war, everything possible must be done to isolate putins government.

Keep politics out of sport though, politics and sports separate.

When it’s been said by us for years about Palestine that’s the answer, now it’s not the same thing.

I agree with sporting sanctions 100% but how frustrating is it the immediate whiplash on the full sports and politics issue when it’s the popular opinion.

Remember we got fined for a banner saying William Wallace, Bobby Sands etc? I’m sure Nelson Mandela had just died or was in the news about not being well, he was in the publics thought. Still always been raging we didn’t put him into that. Because he compared himself and Sands. Was such an easy reply to any criticism using Mandela’s words, and the Prime-minister at time in David Cameron being in a club at Eton against him and then praising him now, was an easy avenue to make that point. And they chose William Wallace instead. Still unreasonably annoyed with that.

outwith that pished rant, I opened this thread to say apparently Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton are trying to buy Chelsea? That’s a strange link up with they two that

Iga Swiatek could put the racket down for the rest of the season and she'd still qualify for the WTA Final.
Insane winning streak of 23 and 4 titles in a row :50:

Sorry mate we’re worlds apart on this.

It isn’t a squeeze on Putin’s regime, it’s targeting individuals, discriminating against them because of what nationality is on their passport. In an authoritarian nation such as Russia, one so filled with aggressive propaganda, it is unjust to attempt to hold its citizens responsible for the actions of their government.

The AELTC state they fear Russian or Belarusian success in this tournament could allow. This ban allows Putin to structure yet another “us v them” attitude against the western world. He doesn’t need Wimbledon to parade Russian athletic success anyway, two Russian players won tournaments in the past week. At the moment, Russian & Belarusian players can still play and be successful at the other three slams so it’s a wholly empty decision imo. The AELTC & the LTA are in violation of ATP, WTA & Grand Slam laws and it’s no surprise the ATP & the WTA are taking action.

They’re already not allowed to compete under the Russian or Belarusian flag across the entire tour, which makes far more sense as a symbolic action than a ban from all tour level events in just the UK.

Without trying to get into whataboutery, there’s no ban on Chinese players despite the actions of their government against the Uyghur people in western China, or against Israeli players… etc etc.

I feel for those who are suffering in Ukraine and also those in Russia brave enough to speak out against the evil war, but for me that doesn’t translate to nationality based discrimination being ok on specific individuals. The vast majority of people I’ve seen comment on it appear to be against the ban too. It won’t achieve anything in regards to stopping the war; all it has achieved is making tennis as a sport look bad.
