Can anyone explain how the MLS works in the US?
I've seen they have two leagues, Eastern & Western but they play teams from each league as well as their own league.
And some teams have played 8 games already but some have only played 2.

Yea some teams have not played many like Real Salt Lake because they were busy in CONCACAF Champions League. East and West are sub confrences in the league. I dont know why we have it and playoffs too but thats an American sport ideal so they stuck with that. The MLS is like Communism, everything goes through the league front office and every team gets an equal share on player revenue. Also we have a salary cap so teams dont go bankrupt and that all teams are equal on the field

If you have any questions just ask. I am really knowledgeable With MLS and CONCACAF. Also if you are looking for a team do not support LA Galaxy and New York Redbulls. They are our version of Man U, Real,Barca... Just because of their stars.

So there isn't really any reason to have the two conferences then? All teams end up playing each other anyway? -

I have no idea about MLS even though I live here. Was thinking about checking out some Chicago Fire matches since they are the local team. Are they any good?

The Fire are ok but not like they were earlier in the decade. I would go to a match they are loads of fun.

They probably won't be when RSL make up their games in hand. If we're continuing on the comparison thread, I'd say they are more like Arsenal (but they actually win things), because they don't spend a lot but manage to construct a good team which plays well together and buys into the philosophy of their manager.

Don't support an American team but why do the teams have really stupid add ons to their names such as Colorado Rapids?

that's how American teams in all sports have been traditionally named. The general public here not familiar with football naming structures responds better in many markets to a traditionally named team like the New England Revolution than a team named like D.C. United or Sporting Kansas City.
It really depends on the market the team is in and whether the fans will be put off by the european naming scheme.
For comparison, when i first started watching soccer I thought the fact that there was a "United" of Manchester as well as one of Newcastle and others (Sheffield, etc...) was ridiculous, now I actually like the european naming scheme a bit better because I feel there is better history to them. -

it would work well making competition better parochially but will nver happen as the superclubs will never want to give up their prestigious positions. Plus Barcelona and Real negotiate their own tv deals so that revenue would be extremely difficult to share with the rest of the league -
Meh, there were names like that before the dawn of over-commercialization. I actually like really oldschool names like the Packers for instance. Post-80s sports names are usually painfully awkward though, I'll give you that.

I've been making that same point for years. MLS names remind me of WNBA team names. They all sound little league.
