Celtic travel to Ayrshire this weekend to take on the newly promoted Killie side, under the stewardship of former Dons boss, Derek McInnes.

Ange's Bhoys have won both of their first two games of the league campaign - one of only two sides to have done so, and the expectation will be for that to continue this weekend also against the Rugby Park outfit.

The Celtic faithful will be seeking to have the Hoops continue to add to this solid foundation to the season, as the manager continues to fine tune the Bhoys for the challenges that lay ahead in the title defence.

While the Celts are yet to fully hit top gear, one cannot argue of the form of Portuguese winger, Jota, who followed up the stunning strike on the opening day against Aberdeen with no less than an assist for each of the three goals that were scored up in Dingwall last week.

For their part, Killie are still looking to find their footing again since returning to the top flight, and are still in search of their first win of the season, after an opening day encounter with Dundee United, which required a late extra time equallizer to claim a share of the spoils, and returning from Govan last weekend empty handed.

Which could make them all the more determined to provide a concerted effort with the visit of the defending Champions to Rugby Park this weekend.

One thing that will be a genuine cause for concern for manager Derek McInnes is that so far they have only managed a single clean sheet through the League Cup group stage fixtures and now the first two rounds of the Premiership also.

One major factor that will be in the home side's favour is the familiarity with the artificial Rugby Park surface - one of two such surfaces in the Premiership along with Livingston's Tony Macaroni Arena. Despite Celtic having a full sized artificial pitch at Lennoxtown to prepare on, Premiership matches on these surfaces have historically often proven to be troublesome for visitors, and Celtic are no exception to this.

    By the Numbers

    • The Hoops have been undefeated in the past 34 League matches, dating back to September 2021
    • The Bhoys have won 8 and drawn once in the past 9 meetings with Killie since September 2018.
    • Kilmarnock have only kept one clean sheet this season - against Montrose in the League Cup Group Stage.

    Team News

The Bhoys will once again be without Reo Hatate, who the manager has revealed should be set for a return next week, preferring not to needlessly risk it, while Carl Starfelt edges closer to a return also, but is likely to be named on the bench, while Postecoglou reported that defender Stephen Welsh could be once again available.

For Derek McInnes side, they will be without the injured trio of Scott Robinson, Blair Alston and Zach Hemming, while Liam Polworth is in contention to start in the midfield, after coming off the bench last weekend.

    Referee: David Dickinson

This will be the first time Dickinson will officiate a match involving either of these clubs at senior level and just his 10th Premiership match overall.
