'Schindler's List' is even more graphic. 'Escape From Sobibor' also depicts this in no uncertain terms, whilst 'For Those I Loved' shows more of the ghetto side, as does 'Jakob the Liar' - even the 'Diary of Anne Frank' is powerful stuff.

'Defiance' is also very good & worth seeing, and in a different way, so is 'The Reader', 'The Man Who Cried' & 'The Pianist'.

Yeah these kind of scenes are in plenty of great films, and in much greater detail, but I think what does it for me with Band of Brothers is that you've been with the same characters over a full series rather than just a single film so you're that bit more invested, it's as much to do with their reactions to it as the actual state of things in the camp.

haven't seen a few of those and considering it is my favorite topic of film i've never seen shindler's list, need to right that wrong.
"uprising" is pretty good. it basically tells the story of what szpilman is watching from his hiding in the pianist but from the resistance viewpoint, with a side plot of the propoganda filming of the ghetto that was recently covered in a channel 4 documentary. it stars the guy that does the voices in the simpsons and ross from friends but if you look past that they are both actually pretty good and both jewish i believe so would have been a subject matter close to heart

Think it is because Spielberg has invested a great part of himself into the subject, that he can convey it with such sensitivity. Schindler's is by far the best film that he has made. He may be remembered for Jaws or Jurassic Park, but his masterpiece is most definately Schindler's List.

R Lee Ermey - the actor who plays the Gunnery Sargeant in Full Metal Jacket was, in fact, a Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marines - including a tour in Vietnam - in real life prior to becoming an actor.

They're not my cup of tea at all, but I never tire of Saving Private Ryan.

Epic film with 2 of my favourite actors in Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.

Hamburger Hill and Das Boot are two films that I keep meaning to watch and never get around to it.

I keep forgetting that this could be classed as a war film, but I loved Zulu when I was wee, always on this time of year.

Ah, yes... Micheal Caine's Zulu - an important link in the 'Caine-Hackman' theory. :56:
