But as we can't sign anyone, we need to play with the best we have. So unless any youth player is ready to step up - and Lawal certainly isn't- then let's go with Welsh.

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh could be one of the first players to leave the club this summer after emerging as a target for Serie A side Hellas Verona.

His Scotland Under-21s teammate Josh Doig has impressed since leaving Hibs for Verona in a £3million deal last summer — and is now the target of a player plus-cash proposal from Lewis Ferguson’s Bologna.

Bologna are also keeping an eye on Welsh’s situation, with the 23-year- old keen to secure first-team football.

If he goes fair play to him, he could probably hang around for a few more years collecting a wage for doing * all because he gets a place for being home grown. Maybe he's seen Doig, Hickey, Ferguson, Hendry and even to a certain extent Henderson go abroad and do very well and okay at worst for themselves.

I realise we have the challenge with home grown players but in terms of being offered £3m for Welsh or continuing as has been for him it has to be the former from club and player.

Welsh isn’t playing enough to improve and lacks the physical attributes to be a successful centre back here, certainly in a 2 centre back formation.

A move abroad could work wonders for him. £3m for an academy player who hasn’t quite reached our level is also smart business.

    This.

He's not going to kick on here as he's not anywhere what we require.

For his own sake he needs to go. He's not gonna break in to the first 11. And what better opportunity than to play in a top 5 league in a beautiful country, food and culture. He needs regular minutes now and at a crucial age.

So he needs to go. Could be the making of him.

If you sell him you have Johnston coming back to be part of club grown players, so Calmac, Ralston, Johnston and possibly Forrest. But we could have Summers and Vata coming through to help take spaces although maybe they need a loan spell first.

Think he could be the next Hendry, but not really shown enough for us to stand in his way

Wouldn't blame him if he left, hasn't had much of a look in. Think he'll go on to have a decent career.

Sell him with a buy back clause. If he takes huge steps we should be able to bring him back for a decent fee for both clubs.

Our homegrown quota should be first team players already or youth. Let them step up.
He needs to leave for his own sake and as has been well proven last few years....going abroad has been the making of these boys

I think he needs to leave for his own career development. Been here too long with very little game time.

I think he’ll do brilliant in Italy, very capable defender that just keeps it simple. Hopefully works out well for him if he goes for it, he definitely needs to get first team football now.

I think it would be amazing for his development to go to Italy they literally manufacture centre backs in that country be good for the Scottish national team

I hope he goes. He’s a good player and that would be some move for him.

Verona is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
