    Tonight is the "Christmas Star", Jupiter and Saturn pretty much aligning. It will be in the Southwest sky close to the horizon after sunset. So probably best seen 4:30pm-6.00pm before they disappear.

    Also a decent meteor shower tonight too if the skies are clear enough.

    One of the clearest nights ever out there tonight. Awesome.

    Just saw two meteors/shooting stars, and what I assume was a satellite of some sort. Fast moving light heading due North, wasn't flashing like an aeroplane and there was nothing showing on flight radar.

    Android app "skyview" seems half decent for pointing your phone at these things to find out if it's a satellite, planet, big star etc

    What's really exciting is the realistic, albeit small, possibility of finding signs of historic life in the carbonates around there. Although they could be abiotic.

    I'm pretty sceptical about Mars having supported life in the past. I just don't think it would have had liquid water, and the atmosphere to support it for long enough before those were stripped away, for life to have evolved there.

    If Venus had a magnetic field I'd have expected it to have been more likely to have had microbial life on it before it started its runaway greenhouse effect and became uninhabitable. But it's hard to say if it ever had a magnetic field in the past or not, so who knows.
