Latest news on the National Service Bill 2013-14

The Bill failed to complete its passage through Parliament before the end of the session. This means the Bill will make no further progress.

I know, i just posted that very same thing but a Tory MP has started the process again and i am not sure whether it will start at beginning again or from where it left off, if allowed to be put forward.

It seems the Tories want to kill off the youth of the UK again.

It doesn't matter as the Bill is going nowhere. It didn't get through last time, the same will happen again.

On this is issue? No. This is one Tory backbencher trying to get his name in the paper. At best he has a hand full of supporters on the Tory backbenches but the overwhelming bulk of every party sees this as a waste of paper.

Except paying them while they train (average cost to train a soldier is 100k), pay them when/if they finish (minimum of 16k a year).
If they are sent to war and they are killed or wounded - compo for the families.
    Lose an eye 15k. etc

    Conscripts aren't free labour.

Either stay at school, or leave to go into training (apprenticeships etc).

If you leave school at 16 to sit in your bedroom and sponge off your parents then you're going to be a drain on society. I'd never let my kids do that.

Don't see why you need to stay on till your 18 when you can work when your 16.

Unless they change the working age then there is no point.

We live in a society where everyone and their dog goes to uni to get a degree.

What we will be left with is a shitload of graduates with no skills and degrees which can't be used in jobs.

Wish Id left school at 16 and got a job and worked my way up.

I don't think I'd have ended up too far from where I am now plus I would have had 6-7 extra years of income and no student loans.

What i was thinking was, you are at school until 16 but you must have a job to go to when you leave.
If you don't you must stay on at high school until 18 or go to college or university.
If you don't have a job after leaving high school at 18 then you are automatically drafted into armed forces until 24.

This scenario would mean that every 16 and 17 year old would either be in a job, at college or university.
Once you are 18, you either have a job, at college or university or then you are drafted straight into armed forces.
This would mean NO state benefits get claimed whatsoever until 24.

I know this is extreme but it wouldnt surprise me one bit if that's what the tories were angling for with this bill.

Would also mean a whole load of kids spend 6 years getting * up n learning * then being released back into society.

No, because all the disruptive bams and people who are just not interested would still be there and that would affect the people who do want to learn.

Not compulsory. I stayed on till 6th year and I am glad I did. I * about to a certain extent during my Standard Grades, although I didn't do too badly.

The education system works for some but not for others. People who wish to pursue trade apprenticeships or other ways into the working world should also be encouraged.
