It has been evident from a lot of our foreign signings over the years, that many of them take a long time to settle in and adjust to the British game, if they can do at all, and names like El Kaddouri, Donati, Ki, Miku, Lassad, Biton, Balde and Pukki spring to mind for examples.

Which brings me to my point. Do you think we should persevere with buying foreign players or maybe play safer by buying mainly British players ?

If it was up to me I'd stick to bringing through the youth and spending way less on foreign imports.

Nationality shouldn't be a factor, however I can see where you're coming from regarding a settling in period (although the example's of Ki and Pukki are both *).

I don't really judge a player by how long he takes to settle. If a guys going to take a whole year to settle but ends up being the next Henrik Larsson, I couldn't really give a * about his settling in period. Good value can be found all over the world, even the over-inflated English market yields the occasional gem. We still shouldn't disregard the SPL though, we've missed out on some decent players in recent years.

Biton and Balde haven't been given the chance to settle in, Pukki scored on his debut and home debut.

Unsure why those 3 immediately spring to mind.

We try to buy GOOD players, not British or foreign.

As for adding Balde and Pukki, bit early to judge:rolleyes:

Bring more of our own through.
Buy foreign preferably from Irish, Dutch or Scandinavian leagues.

    Biton, Balde and Pukki??

    * *, their passport stamps are still wet!

I'm still trying to work out if this board is a holding pen for comedians or no righters...

BTW...the answer to your poll is obviously that we should buy the best we can....no matter where they come from.

British - David Hannah, Darren Jackson, Kenny Miller, Lee Naylor, Paul Telfer, Dion Dublin, Rab Douglas, Steve Guppy, Michael Gray, Stephen Pearson, Adam Virgo, Derek Riordan, Mark Brown, Steven Pressley, Ben Hutchinson, Danny Fox, Josh Thompson, - Irish players Willo Flood, Daryl Murphy, Paddy McCourt, Niall McGinn...... It works out about the same.

Lennon is probably the only Celtic manager to be successful in signing players from the English Lower Leagues.

He's plucked out Hooper, Ledley, Matthews, Wilson, Commons and Forster.. superb signings. We probably should sign more players from there.

Our academy have some great kids on the books. And can see us filtering some of these through to the first team. But we need a foreign flavour to the team also. I think we need these players for Europe and an mixed squad and integration should work with the right watchful eye. Even some home grown talent don't always make it at our club. Like Derek Riordon, who I expected big things from. Yet we have had foreign players who cost us next to nothing, Larsson, Mjallby, Lubo, Izzy, Sammi etc.

Pearson was an excellent signing imo, considering he cost £350k. His performance against Barca alone was worth that.

We should probably avoid buying from the EPL/Championship in the near future, players are very very overpriced. Buying from the Scandanivan and Balkan leagues is something we should do more, players are very cheap, even the ones that are the best in their various leagues. There is a number of gems to be found I think.

    Hooper - Championship - £2.4m
    Bangura - Scandinavia - £2.2m

We need to stop generalising on specific markets and focus on the players within them.

If they are good enough it doesn't matter where they come from. We have had smashing players from every corner of the globe pretty much! Nakamura, Viduka, Wanyama, Izzy, players from all over Europe and then our British players in Hartson, Sutton etc.

That's an isolated example though, you could also say that Wolves were asking for £3m from us for Doyle when everyone can see in reality he isn't worth anywhere near that. Of course there are a number of gems to be found in EPL/Championship but they've already usually been found out by other clubs who can pay bigger transfer fees and wages, or their club simply overprices them because they have Sky money and don't need to sell.

There's is a difference between charging that for a player in a top-flight division and charging that for someone in the 2nd division.

I think he is right, many of the players in the championship are over-priced and this will continue to happen and will further increase.

It's only an example of how we shouldn't generalise markets.

Sorry if you missed that part of my post.
