A Belfast teenager who just can't stop scoring goals is set to go on trial with Celtic. Shay Reid will head to Glasgow later this year after bagging an incredible 27 goals already this season for Cliftonville's academy.

The 16-year-old - who is on target to beat the 36 goals he plundered last season - has been attracting interest from a number of clubs in England and Scotland, but it's the Scottish Premiership champions who appear to be in pole position for his signature.

Reid has already been on trial with Celtic. He spent a week with the Glasgow giants last summer alongside Cliftonville teammate Ryan Corrigan, and impressed in a pre-season friendly for their Under 18 side.

This second trip was sealed after Celtic's head scout watched Reid score twice in a recent Under 20 game against Glentoran. The youngster also captained the Reds in the 4-1 success

Reid, who attends St Colm's High School in Twinbrook, is Cliftonville's top goalscorer in the NIFL Reserve League and has been on standby for Northern Ireland's recent Under 17 squads. He is also on the radar of the Republic of Ireland who have been monitoring his progress in recent months.

Last season's 36-goal haul included 27 for Cliftonville's U16s, with Reid finishing the season as the league's top goalscorer.

He also bagged another nine goals for the U18s after he was promoted to the older age group. Reid also lifted the NIBFA Cup with Cliftonville U16s after beating Glenavon 3-0 in the final. He provided assists for all three goals. The squad went on to win the all-Ireland final 4-1, making it two trophies during the season

The teenager was a star of last year's SuperCupNI, where he featured for County Down. He was awarded the Bertie Peacock award for County Premier Section Player of the Tournament

Reid has continued that form into this season, and hopes are high he will move into full-time football once he completes school this summer. Which club that's with remains to be seen.

I'm never against these kind of signings, but it is always disappointing seeing a new rumour pop up and its a youth player :56:

I'd love to see an academy striker break through into our first team again (assuming he'd spend time with the development squad for a while if he signs). Last one must have been Burchill?

Surely we just try and get him in.

The rate he's scoring goals as a youngster I don't think he needs a second trial.

I completely forgot about Beattie, but aye I didn't include Watt as he came from Airdrie.

If Rivaldo needed a trial, this boy will need to come through 10 :BR1:
