Think he will be an excellent signing for us. A classic no nonsense defender which we do not have in our squad at the moment so not just is a he a good defender he gives us something we really don't have in our team at the moment. Plus as I have mentioned before him and Jullien in other teams boxes are going to be quite the threat.

I have had the misfortune of seeing most of Ireland games over the past few years and as bad as we are and we are dreadful Duffy stands out as a quality no nonsense defender. Very good signing IMHO and hopefully it is true there is an option to buy.

Aye I'm convinced he will be too mate. I'm more at the wind up!

I have few worries about him up here..he should coast the league. But let's see!

Bit of passion back there. Good to have.

A proper leader too, which may give Lennon the confidence to drop Brown from time to time.

That seems to be the general consensus of everyone on here who obviously watch more football than me. So I will look forward to see his style and how he will blend in with the team. Fresh faces always lift the mood at the start of the season. Wish him well and because he is a Derry man he won’t lack effort. :50:

Exactly the type of centre half we need. Teams have cottoned on to the fact that against Jullien and Ajer, as long as you play a striker that is 6ft plus and is strong then you are in with half a chance. It's embarrassing how easy it is to rough the pair of them up. It will be interesting to see how we line up now and whether it will be a 3 or a 4 defensively.

Has to be a back 3 I think, especially domestically. 4-2-3-1 works for us in Europe against better opposition but games against teams weaker than us or parked buses we should be starting two up top and packing the midfield with a 3-5-2.

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ireland internationalist Shane Duffy from English Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

Shane, who has also played with Everton and Blackburn Rovers, has made 130 appearances for Brighton, scoring eight goals and assisting five times for his team-mates in that time.

The 28-year-old centre-back is currently on International duty with Ireland as they prepare to face Bulgaria and Finland in Nations League matches.

Shane is delighted to seal this move to the nine-in-a-row champions, and can’t wait to begin his career at Paradise. He said: “I really am delighted to sign this deal with Celtic. It is a huge honour for me to join Celtic, such a huge institution and a brilliant football club that I have always loved and admired

“It will be a fantastic personal moment for me when I pull on the Celtic jersey. It’s just a great feeling – I could not be happier to be part of the Club now and I just can’t wait to start working with the Manager, the staff and the players when I return from International duty with Ireland.

“We will be challenging on a lot of fronts this season and I am really excited about getting going, as we try and bring the fans more and more success.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon added: “We are delighted to bring a player of Shane’s quality to Celtic. He is an international player with so many great attributes. He is leader and he’s a warrior – someone with real ability and who will also give us that great physical presence.

I know too he is a player who will add great personality to the dressing room. This is a real coup for the Club. From the off, Shane wanted to come to Celtic and we are delighted we have been able to fend off English Premier League interest.

“We are delighted with Shane’s decision to come and I am delighted with the business which Nick Hammond and the Board have done, not only in bringing Shane to Celtic, but throughout the window.

“We can’t wait to get Shane involved in the squad as we look to the many challenges ahead.”

Everyone at the club wishes Shane every success here at Celtic, and the club would also like to thank the FAI for their assistance in facilitating the medical process in Dublin.

A signing with all the right attributes, at the right age, with the right pedigree.

Don’t see many of those from us these days, class signing.
