Celtic kid Scott Robertson should seal a loan move to Gillingham this week.

The highly rated 19-year-old midfielder is expected to make the switch to Priestfield on a season long deal just days after signing a new Hoops extension until 2023.

Robertson made his first team debut against Cluj in the Europa League group stages last campaign and is a favourite of boss Neil Lennon but has found his opportunities restricted due to a midfield overload of options at the champions.

Gills boss Steve Evans is also a fan of the powerful teenager and is expected to give the youngster much needed game time with the League One club.

Despite being regularly included in match-day squads under Lennon this season and confirming his prolonged stay at Celtic. Robertson will now use the loan route which has served the likes of Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie so well to force his way into the Hoops first team plans.

 

They also tried to get Dembele on loan and it was basically laughed at so hopefully he gets a chance in the team soon

 

McGregor's League 1 loan with Notts County was the making of him, hopefully Robertson can do something similar.

 

Shouldn’t have been laughed at. Wouldn’t mind half them boys going to places like Gillingham. Need first team minutes with clubs looking to push on. Likes of Dembele, Soro, Connel, Klimala, McInroy. Get them punted to these leagues. Ajer and McGregor benefitted from playing first team football and even Jack Aitchinson seems to have gotten himself a move to a championship side after doing quite well for Forest Green last year.

Decent move at this stage of his career at league 1. The one thing you can see us his physicality naturally isn't there for a long season so down here he'll mature quickly..

Good move for him, hopefully gets in the team and plays a lot of games. He has the ability to do it and come back and challenge of he does well enough

Hopefully we see a Notts Co/McGregor type scenario where he really kicks on after exposure to first team football and comes back up here to get regular first team action. Boy looks very promising.

 

Good move getting him out for minutes. Looks a great prospect so hopefully ready to challenge here in a season or two.

 

Good move for Scott, hopefully a few more of the young lads who are unlikely to get minutes will get similar moves. We should really try to strike up a Partnership deal with a Gillingham or another league 1 team that we will send them down a 2 or 3 academy boys a season.

To sweeten it for them, no loan fees and we could offer them first option on any that we don’t see a future at Celtic for going forward.

It would be good for all parties, the players gets experience and has another option if Celtic doesn’t work out, as well as being in the league one shop window. The receiving club as they get talented young guys who could help them either push for promotion or ensure they remain in the league. Celtic get a look at what our young guys can do in a competitive league, gives them great experience and allows a more thorough platform to assess their chances of making it for us.

The current reserve structure really isn’t working so would be worth trying something else.
