I hope Broony gets the nod and wins the prize and this just shows what a decent guy he is.

I don’t get what Ranieri did to get nominated? It literally happens in every country :giggle1:

Mixed reaction, some don't mind but some are frothing. The reality is if one of their players did the same they would want the same thing.
Denmark medical team will win it anyway

Yeh had a wee peek myself. Just getting nominated seems to have set them off. Turns out it's one big conspiracy - wouldn't you know.

He should get the award for killing the old club and doing so much to keep the new one down for years.

Nice gesture but that has to go to the Danish lot!

It's a slam-dunk. Brooney's gesture was class and it reflects very well on our club, but he's just making up the numbers here,

I agree that Denmark are likely to get it, but I don’t think that they should, tbh; not compared to Broony.

They simply did whatever any of us would do for a friend and colleague. Ok, they did it under high pressure circumstances, with the world’s cameras on them, but the act itself was not on the same level as Broony’s. It didn’t break any barriers or cross any boundaries.

Anyone can treat a friend well; it takes guts to look after someone who would be seen as an enemy.

Anyway, they will get it because it was a viral moment and we all felt for Eriksen. But it’s not the right call, and reflects a misunderstanding of real values and virtue.

    Nah.

They watched a teammate die and gathered themselves, huddled round to stop cameras recording Eriksen. Then consoled his wife who was down on the pitch.

    They deserve it.

It doesn’t take anything away from what Brown down.

Don’t get me wrong, what they did was admirable, and took a lot of composure, but like I said, it’s how we’d all hope to react in those circumstances. Not saying they don’t deserve it in and of themselves, but Broony’s act carries more significance, imo, and for that reason is more deserving.

Brown crossed a boundary, and it was an important symbolic act in the battle for racial justice. That’s more in keeping with the usual nature of this award, for me.

Surely it's the same with Brown and Kamara?

He did what any decent person would do in that scenario.

Wouldn’t we all hope to act like Brown in those circumstances?

Denmark’s act was a spur of the moment decision as they saw their own teammate lying dead infront of them. I don’t think most young men act as composed as they did in all honesty.

I honestly don’t believe so, sadly. Many of us no doubt would, but a sad though large minority wouldn’t. Looking after one’s own, or seeing differences, etc, often trumps loving an enemy.

As said before, I fully agree on the composure aspect, but the boundary crossing is what just nicks it for Broony, for me.

Isn't even a debate, let's be honest. On one hand you have a group of men in utter shock and devastation composing themselves to stop a camera crew intruding on their teammate lying dead on the pitch. With the captain consoling Eriksen's wife at the side of the pitch.

One the other hand you have Brown going to give Kamara a pat in the back and a word of encouragement before a match.

Mate it’s football. Brown doesn’t see Kamara as a literal enemy. He’s a rival from another team.

The idea that football rivalry comes close to young boys watching their friend die infront of them is absurd.

I’m not talking about football rivalry - nor about how Brown sees Kamara - as you must know from my other posts; it’s about how it’s seen by other people, and therefore the message of solidarity in the face of racial injustice. No one needs convinced that we should look after friends/colleagues in a dire situation; whereas a sad and large minority do still need convinced that racism is vile, and that other things should be put aside to end it.

We can agree to disagree, but I’ll be gutted for Broony if he doesn’t get it.
