just said prity much the same in the McManus thread too, they were both bang average as players, both had the same flaws as players, Aye they were * at defending.

If he thinks he still has something to offer us on the park he's as deluded as the manager that continually played him as we lost and drew and threw the league away

You would have probably sacked Shaun Maloney as well when he was a youth coach then going by your ridiculous logic.

It’s pretty telling that he says ‘a lot of offer on the field, or with the lads in training’. Suggests to me that he’s been told he won’t feature as much, and is to act more like a mentor/leadership presence.

Aye, we can NOT afford him the sentimental 1 or 2 year contract after this season. Not even as a player coach.

If the offer to go to Australia is still on the cards, he really should take it. Finish his badges over there, earn a last pay day in an (no offence) easier league and do that * away from Celtic.
If he then proves to be a decent coach, I will accept him coming back as a COACH, but not till he proves it elsewhere.

Love the guy, absolute Celtic legend for sure, literally captained the entire 9 in a row and quadruple treble (he literally gets that claim, unlike Lennon who tries to hijack it), but we need to be so far done with this sentimental * now. Until players start to prove something to get a job, please * off at the correct time. The end of this season is most certainly that time for Scott.

Much my thoughts on him too, it’s all good having an older journeyman in your team if they’re still putting shifts in and have players good enough around him to pick up the slack, unfortunately for us we’ve not got a good enough squad to cover his slack passing, loose marking and bad decision making week in week out. Single handedly one of the players that have cost us points this season from his mistakes, we’ve had the best out of him for seasons, I’ll always be thankful for that but when it starts costing the team that’s when you bow out.

It's not ridiculous logic though, Maloney has a great reputation as a coach but again we could afford a more experienced & better coach than Maloney too to coach the kids, there are no excuses for not having some of the best coaches in the world at the club at all times, given they won't be on more than £300K a year I would suspect.

There's not really a thing as great youth coaches, they're former players that earned their coaching badges starting out in management. That's how it works, the good ones become managers and in Gerrard's case even some * ones become managers but there is no such thing as top level youth coaches.

I'm aware these clubs have infinite money & resources, but I'd hazard a guess that the youth coaches at clubs like Man City & PSG etc aren't all former players, probably top youth coaches with good reputations everywhere, could be wrong though

Laughable comparison. We have nothing like the structure or footballing culture those clubs have spent decades building.

https://trainingground.guru/article...romoted Spaniard,U11s to become his assistant.

Man City - Former footballers and complete unknowns promoted from within their own youth setup. Nothing special there, no megabucks being spent.

Yup, he’s still got nothing to offer us for the remainder of the season. He’s been a liability in every big match for the last 2 seasons, especially against the filth. Captains lift players, he doesn’t seem capable of that anymore.

It's a myth he's ever been capable of it, we've went out to multiple diddies in CL Qualifiers in five of the last seven seasons under his watch as captain, inspirational captains aren't part of so many European disasters such as that
