Scott Brown - an eccentric and true captain

The history of football has seen a lot of great captains. From Oliver Kahn to Roy Keane there were players that were known for their action, leadership, determination, and could change the game with a single shot.

Scott Brown has always attracted my attention. He might not be the best player in the world but the way he plays and literally puts his soul in every game always makes people root for him. Because he is a true captain of Celtic.

A shaved, tattooed, with a lot of muscle mass - the brutal appearance of the central midfielder certainly makes Scott's rivals stay away from him.

I want to remember one episode in the Scottish Championship game against Aberdeen when he received several kicks, a hard poke, and a ball on the back in one episode. Any other footballer would complain to the referee about the offenders or just come to his senses for a long time, waiting for the help of doctors. But this is Scott - a real athlete, a real fighter! The Celtic captain quickly jumped to his feet and as if nothing had happened began to dance and show the fans how cool he was. Really cool.

Scott’s influence on the team and football in Scotland, in general, is exemplary. Being such an extraordinary figure in Scottish football Brown has attracted the attention of the gambling industry which is developing rapidly in the UK. I can remember one occurrence when the best casino no deposit promotions for sports fans was based on him and a lot of people used them mainly because of the love for Scott.

    Who is he?

What kind of man and footballer is Scott Brown? In fact, despite the type, it would be wrong to call it a classic destroyer. He's not a typical “destroyer” after all, otherwise, he'd hardly be in a Celtic-level team. The midfielder competently moves on the field, reads the game well, and skillfully manages the ball.

By the way, when Brown moved from his native Hibernian to the Glasgow club in 2007, his transfer was the most expensive for deals inside Scotland at the time: Celtic paid a total of 5.94 million pounds for the future captain. Interestingly, the midfielder also had options with the English Premier League teams, but Scott, unlike most other Scottish players, refused the English Championship. His motivation was purely football.

And the Scottish player was right. Celtic gave him a performance in the Champions League and Europa League, a confrontation with the best players in the world. To date, Scott has played 128 matches in European competitions, in which he scored three goals. And earned a single ejection in more than 10 years. However, this ejection received in October 2013, made a noise.

    Neymar’s incident

Scott Brown was given a red card for a foul against Neymar. The story took place in the home game against Barcelona in the group stage of the Champions League with a score of 0-0. Then Celtic conceded a goal, so the captain, you might say, let Celtic down. He earned a three-match suspension.

Scott had other conflicts with other players as well. For example, with Malta national team player Steve Borg. Then the midfielder himself was injured. The Maltese spat at the Scot in the 2018 World Cup qualifier. "Borg is a disgusting scumbag," Brown said. He spat at me and then he wanted to apologize. It's a good thing I kept my composure at that moment."

In 2017 then the 32-year-old Celtic captain announced the end of his appearances for Scotland. And for the second time in the course of his career. Scott first announced his retirement from the national team in August 2016 due to his physical condition but changed his mind a couple of months later. He played 55 games for the Scottish national team and scored four times. Unfortunately, Brown was not lucky enough to take part in the final stage of the World Cup or the Euro.

    Unfortunate events

A couple of striking cases are connected with his game with Glasgow Rangers. In early 2006, Scott, while still a Hibernian footballer, fell into a hospital bed due to a broken leg. He was injured in the Scottish Championship game against Hearts, but at first, the doctors did not find anything serious. Brown played with a fracture against Rangers a few days later and endured the most of the match! He asked for a replacement only after the pain became quite unbearable.

A few years later, the Celtic midfielder almost provoked a fight in the Old Firm derby. Scott didn't share something with striker El Hadji Diouf during the cup battle with Rangers. When Brown scored, he celebrated his success with Diouf and veered his hands to the side. It's good that the Senegalese controlled himself.

Scott himself was chronicled in the 2015 League Cup final against Dundee United. Someone filmed him leaving a strip club drunk. Brown got so drunk that he couldn't stand on his feet properly. He took a pizza and started eating it, singing right on the road.

The club's management condemned Brown's behavior, but the fans certainly forgave their player. Moreover, the midfielder led the team to the final with the captain's armband, played 90 minutes, and contributed to the victory - 2-0. Iron Scott is a club’s symbol and he is already on the list of top Celtic players.
