There's a few papers this morning running a story that the club are extending his contract * and there was me thinking offering Taylor a another contract was bad enough and if it's true very disappointing .

No issue with him challenging a youngster to be second choice keeper.

If anything, it puts the fear in to me that younger talent won't get the shout.

Keeper position needs a complete clear out for me.
Bain, Barkas and Hazard can all be sold. Bring in Tobi to see if he can show signs of playing backup to Hart second half of the season (very unlikely at his age), and if need be get him out on loan to a fellow Premiership club next season in preparation to take over.

New deals to guys like Bain is just going to slow down that pathway

Bain as a back up keeper is fine. The club needs to focus its attention on signing first team quality for other positions like Left back.

I dont mind the club saying to Hart your first choice, Bain 2nd choice for conceivable future. Similar to Joranovic and Ralston being tied down until 2025.

Bain's an international player with over 250 league appearances. I'd rather have him as back up than throwing in a teenage keeper for a European or big cup game if Hart was unavailable. Bain's cheap, and he qualifies as a home grown player for Europe. Makes sense.

Celtic are set to hand Scott Bain a contract extension.

Ange Postecoglou, who takes his team away on Europa League action away to Bayer Leverkusen this week, has already handed a number of his squad new deals.

The keeper is next in line.

Postecoglou has been impressed with Bain since he took over the Celtic job in the summer and the way he has pushed Joe Hart all the way for the No. 1 spot.

Bain is out of contract in the summer of 2023 but that is set to become a more long-term agreement.

Vasilis Barkas started the season with the gloves but Bain then was given the top spot, until Hart came in from Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Scotland squad keeper has been at Parkhead since 2018 when his initial loan move from Dundee was turned into a permanent one

The 29-year-old has been understudy to the likes of Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster in that time, but has still made more than 60 top team appearances for the Hoops.

Bain will continue to push Hart with Barkas well out of the plans. Celtic are likely to look at future options for the Greek keeper.

The Parkhead side also have Conor Hazard and Ross Doohan, who is currently on-loan at Tranmere Rovers.

Postecoglou has recently given new deals to captain Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston.

I understand the point your making but you've said yourself that it's very unlikely that Tobi will be adequate backup at his age. So if Hart gets injured tomorrow then who do you go with? If Tobi can successfully oust Bain as clear second choice then yes, it's time for Bain to go but it doesn't sound like we're quite there yet.

Aye it would be difficult to sign a back up keeper. Bain gets a new deal but barkas needs to go.

But with that said we need to either tutor one of the youth players who we think can make the grade to step in then step up hopefully.
Good goalies are hard to find and we've been pretty lucky with the likes of boruc and Forster and no Hart

Happy with this, Bain’s one of the better back up keepers I can remember us having

100%, none of that 3 good enough and should all be moved on.
They have proven, in the past to be not up to it, so cut losses and move all 3 on.
Bring in someone like Marshall on a short term deal to cover till seasons end.
What are we thinking of giving the likes of Bain and Taylor new deals, what have done to deserve new deals?

Can't believe some on here are happy Bain being number two and if Hart was to get a long term injury and we had to play Bain for the title run in I don't think he's good enough and fear it could cost us .
